High School

In high school hockey last night…

  • Jeffers routed Cheboygan 12-0. Brit Heinonen and Max Nordstrom each had a hat trick.

Hancock High School has announced plans for a fan bus for students who want to attend the Bulldogs’ volleyball quarterfinal match Tuesday. Space is limited, and students should sign up at school Monday. The district will cover the cost of the bus, but students will be responsible for purchasing their own tickets. The quarterfinal match against Atlanta will begin at 6:00 at Manistique High School. Tickets for the contest cost $10, and should be purchased online here.

College Soccer

Northern Michigan University will face Saginaw Valley State in the championship game of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women’s soccer tournament. The top-seeded Wildcats dispatched fifth-seed Davenport University 4-1 yesterday. Brooke Pietila and Madison Bilbia each had a goal and an assist. Third seed Saginaw Valley and second seed Grand Valley State played to a 1-1 tie through regulation and extra time. The Cardinals won a five-round penalty kick session 3-2 to advance. The championship game will be played tomorrow at 1:00 in Marquette.

College Football

The Michigan Tech football team wraps up its season this afternoon at Saginaw Valley State.

The Northern Michigan squad concludes its campaign at Wayne State.

College Volleyball

The MTU volleyball team downed Saginaw Valley State 3-1 (25-20, 19-25, 25-21, 25-18) last evening. Meg Raabe had 16 kills, and Rachel Zurek added 13. Tess Hayes had 48 assists, and Amelia Albers had 20 digs. The Huskies conclude their regular season at Lake Superior State today.

The NMU volleyball squad shut down Lake Superior State 3-0 (25-14, 25-20, 25-9) last night, and wraps up its regular season at Saginaw Valley State today.

College Hockey

The Tech hockey team has this weekend off.

NMU dropped a 3-0 decision at 16th-ranked Minnesota State last evening. Those teams skate again tonight in Mankato. 

College Basketball

The MTU women’s basketball team opened up a 20-point halftime lead, and cruised past Bemidji State 85-57 yesterday. Alyssa Wypych led the Huskies with 16 points. Kendall Standfest added 15, and pulled down 10 rebounds. Tech hosts Minnesota Crookston today at 3:00.

The Tech men’s team plays at Winona State today, and Concordia-St. Paul tomorrow.

Jacy Wiesbrod scored 26 points, as the NMU women’s team dumped Minnesota Crookston 85-69 yesterday.  The Wildcats welcome Bemidji State today at 3:00.

The Northern men’s squad faces Illinois-Springfield at Wisconsin Dells this afternoon.

NHL

The Red Wings couldn’t hold an early lead, and lost 6-4 to the Ducks last night. Tallies by Mark Kasper, Jonatan Berggren and Lucas Raymond put Detroit up 3-1 early in the second period. Anaheim responded with four straight goals off Alex Lyon to take control. Alex DeBrincat’s goal late in the third period narrowed the gap, but an empty-netter in the final minute secured the win for the Ducks.

The Wings visit the Kings tonight. Coverage will start at 7:45 on 99.3 The Lift.

NBA

Malik Beasley scored 20 points, as the Pistons held off the Raptors 99-95 last evening. Tobias Harris snared 11 rebounds.

The Pistons visit the Wizards tomorrow.

NFL

The Lions entertain the Jaguars in a 1:00 game Sunday. Coverage will begin at noon on 99.3 The Lift.

The Packers visit the Bears for a 1:00 contest.

The Chargers host the Bengals in the Sunday night game. In Monday’s contest, the Texans will visit the Cowboys. Both games will be broadcast on 99.3 The Lift.
