High School
In high school hockey last night…
• Jeffers defeated Calumet 6-4. The Jets opened the scoring with goals from Brogan Turner and Kailob Bianco. Liam Pomroy got one back for the Copper Kings late in the first period. Jeffers increased the lead with second period goals by Cage Osterman and Cody Turner. Brendan Boberg and Nate Londo responded for Calumet. Leading 4-3 early in the final period, Benton Rajala added a goal for Jeffers. Cam Anderson netted one to keep Calumet close, but Brit Heinonen scored an insurance marker to put the game away. Kasen Helminen made 27 saves for the Jets, and Hunter Tuoriniemi stopped 34 shots for the Copper Kings. Hear the game replay here.
In high school boys basketball last evening…
• Houghton v West Iron County – no report.
• Lake Linden-Hubbell shut down Ontonagon 77-38. Gabe Popko led all scorers with 21.
• Dollar Bay-Tamarack City v Wakefield-Marenisco – no report.
In girls action last night…
• Calumet upended Houghton 44-41. The Gremlins led by six at halftime, but the Copper Kings came back to take a two-point lead at the end of the third period, and held on down the stretch. Eva Gerard of the Gremlins led all scorers with 20 points. Caitlyn Strom scored 18 for the Copper Kings – 16 in the second half. Millie Loukus added 11.
• Hancock slipped past Ironwood 40-36.
• Lake Linden-Hubbell remained unbeaten with a 64-44 win over Ontonagon.
• Dollar Bay-Tamarack City lost to Wakefield-Marenisco 54-33.
Baraga’s doubleheader at Ewen-Trout Creek was postponed to February 5th.
The Hancock at Calumet boys basketball game that was scheduled for tonight has been postponed to January 26th.
In high school skiing yesterday…
• The ski competition at Powderhorn Mountain in Ironwood was canceled.
College Volleyball
The Michigan Tech volleyball team has added another player for next season. Abbi Perkins will be a fifth-year player, transferring in from Aquinas College.
NHL
The Red Wings visit the Panthers tonight. Coverage will begin at 6:45 on 99.3 The Lift.
Detroit’s Patrick Kane will miss at least two games because of the lower body injury he suffered in Sunday’s game. Team officials say the injury is not related to the hip surgery from which he recently recovered.

The Pistons host the Timberwolves tonight.
