High School

The Jeffers baseball team advanced to the Division Four regional championship game with a 2-1 victory over Norway yesterday. Cody Turner pitched 5 and 2/3rds strong innings, and earned the win. Levi Frahm came in to close the game. Simon Rajala had two hits for the Jets.

Jeffers will face East Jordan for a regional title Saturday at 10:00 at Indian Lakes High School. Rogers City and Rudyard will play for their regional title at 12:30. The state quarterfinal game between the winners of those two contests will be played at 2:30. Remember that the Michigan High School Athletic Association requires that all tickets be purchased in advance online at GoFan.co.

NBA

The Nuggets outscored the Heat 109-94 last evening. Denver leads the NBA Championship Series 2-1, with game four set for tomorrow in Miami.

NHL

The Golden Knights visit the Panthers when the Stanley Cup championship series resumes tonight. Vegas leads the series 2-0.

MLB

The Tigers game against the Phillies was canceled because of poor air quality last evening. Eastern cities have been smothered by smoke that has drifted south from Canadian wildfires. That contest will be made up in Philadelphia tonight. Tyler Holton will start against Zack Wheeler. Coverage will begin at 5:40 on 99.3 The Lift.

The Brewers pounded the Orioles 10-2 last evening. Willy Adames homered, and Joey Weimer went deep twice. Corbin Burnes pitched eight shutout innings, and allowed just two hits.

The Brewers host the Orioles again this afternoon. Colin Rae will pitch against Kyle Bradish.

Adames was back in the lineup just two weeks after he was hit in the head by a batted ball while in the Milwaukee dugout. To make room for him on the roster, infielder Brice Turang was sent down to Nashville.

That’s six seconds better than the previous U.P. record. The effort was part of a community track celebration that raised money to support the Gremlins track and field team.
