In boys high school basketball last night…
– Calumet cruised past L’Anse 64-36. Matt Ojala led the Copper Kings with 17 points.
– Chassell got past Hancock 61-54. Zach Goddard scored 22 for the Panthers.
– Jeffers smothered Baraga 86-43. Jaden Wood had 27 points for the Jets, and Joey Francois scored 15 for the Vikings.
– Dollar Bay-Tamarack City used a big second quarter to put away Lake Linden-Hubbell 70-46. The Blue Bolts outscored the Lakes 23-4 in that second period, to take a 20-point halftime lead. Dollar Bay’s Jaden Janke led all scorers with 29 points, and Devin Schmitz added 23. Lincoln Klein scored 17 for Lake Linden.

MTU
The Michigan Tech women’s basketball team hung tough at top-ranked Ashland last night, but wound up losing 82-75. Morgan Anderson hit eight three-pointers and scored a career-best 29 points to lead the Huskies’ upset bid. Elizabeth Kelliher added a career-high 21.
The MTU men’s team rallied from 13 points down to defeat Ashland 80-71. The Huskies held the Eagles to just 26 points in the second half. Tommy Lucca had 24 points and seven assists for Tech.
Both MTU basketball teams play at Tiffin tomorrow.
The Michigan Tech hockey team skates at 12th-ranked Notre Dame tonight and tomorrow night. It’s the final non-conference series of the season for the Huskies.
NMU
The Northern Michigan University women’s basketball team defeated Tiffin 69-53 last night. The Wildcats men’s team lost to the Dragons 81-68. Both NMU squads will play at Ashland tomorrow.
The NMU hockey team will face Lake Superior State in the Cappo Cup series this weekend. Tonight’s game is at the Soo, and tomorrow’s contest is in Marquette.
Finlandia
Both Finlandia University basketball teams play at Bethany Lutheran tonight, and Martin Luther College tomorrow.
The Finlandia men’s hockey team skates at the College of St. Scholastica tonight and tomorrow night.
The Finlandia women’s hockey team entertains Wisconsin-Superior tomorrow evening at 7:30, and Sunday afternoon at 1:00.
GLHL
Both the Portage Lake Pioneers and the Calumet Wolverines have this weekend off.
NHL
Former Northern Michigan University goalie Jared Coreau earned his first NHL shutout last night, as the Detroit Red Wings blanked the Los Angeles Kings 4-0. Coreau made 34 saves. Thomas Vanek scored twice. Andreas Anthansiou had a goal and two assists. The Wings skate at San Jose tomorrow evening.
NBA
The Detroit Pistons squandered a 19-point lead in the final 10 minutes, but recovered to edge the Charlotte Hornets 115-114 last night. Reggie Jackson’s two free throws with two seconds remaining provided the winning margin. He led the team with 22 points. With Aron Baynes injured, and Andre Drummond on the sideline with foul trouble, Boban Marjanovic came off the bench to score 15 points and grab 19 rebounds. The Pistons play at Portland tomorrow night.
NFL
The NFL playoffs begin tomorrow. Oakland plays at Houston at 4:35. The wild card Detroit Lions will play at Seattle at 8:15.
On Sunday, Miami plays at Pittsburgh at 1:05. The NFC North champion Green Bay Packers welcome the New York Giants at 4:40. Hear all the NFL playoff games on AM 1400 and FM 99.3, WCCY.
