MLB
Matthew Boyd turned in a strong start, as the Detroit Tigers defeated the Kansas City Royals 8-4 yesterday afternoon. Boyd gave up two runs over six innings. He struck out seven. Detroit broke the game open with four runs in the fourth inning. The big blow was a three-run homer by José Iglesias.

The Tigers have today off, and entertain the Cleveland Indians tomorrow night. Mike Fiers will start against Carlos Carrasco. Pregame coverage begins at 6:45 on 99.3 The Lift.

Freddy Peralta gave up seven runs over six innings, and the Milwaukee Brewers lost the Washington Nationals 7-3 yesterday. Milwaukee didn’t score until Hernán Pérez blasted a three-run homer in the ninth inning.

The Brewers will play the Giants in San Francisco tonight. Wade Miley will pitch against Dereck Rodríguez.

Milwaukee starter Zach Davies has experienced a setback in his attempt to recover from back problems. Davies has been scratched from a scheduled minor league rehab start today, after he reported more stiffness in his lower back. An MRI has been scheduled. His injury, plus the loss of Brent Suter for the rest of the season with an elbow injury, could increase the chances that the Brewers will trade for another starting pitcher before the non-waiver deadline next week.

Twilight League
In Copper Country Twilight League baseball this evening…
– Wolverine-Orbit will meet Dean Kangas-State Farm at the Hancock Driving Park.
– REL-Mohawk Technologies will play Superior National Bank-Stanton at the Stanton field.
Both games begin at 6:30.
