Ice Wins for Gremlins, ‘Dogs, Jets, Huskies – Sunday Sports Wrap

High School

In high school hockey Saturday…
• Houghton scored twice in the final five minutes to pull out a 3-2 victory over Trenton. Tanner Flachs gave the Gremlins a brief lead early in the second period, but the Trojans responded with two tallies. Grant Schaible tied the game late in the third period, and Jace DeForge netted the game-winner with 92 seconds remaining in regulation. All of Houghton’s goals came on power plays. Bryant Lee earned the win in net, as the Gremlins outshot the Trojans 23-14.
• Calumet netted two late goals to salvage a 3-3 tie with Howell.
• Hancock skated past Traverse City Central 4-1.
• Jeffers claimed a 5-2 victory at Ashland. Kailob Bianco and Cody Turner each had a goal and an assist. Ethan Anderson, Brit Heinonen and Griffin Heinonen each scored. Pierce Johnson stopped 22 shots to earn the win in net.

College Hockey

The Michigan Tech hockey team earned a weekend split against Bowling Green with a 3-2 victory Saturday night. Kash Rasmussen and Max Koskipirtti gave the Huskies an early lead. After the Falcons tied the contest, Isaac Gordon tipped in a Tyrone Bronte shot with six minutes remaining to win the game. Blake Pietila made 31 saves.

The Northern hockey team lost 5-3 to Augustana Saturday night.

College Basketball

All of the Michigan Tech and NMU basketball teams have the weekend off.

NHL

The Red Wings blew an early three-goal lead, then came back to shade the Canadiens 5-4 in overtime Saturday night. Joe Veleno, Christian Fischer and Daniel Sprong all found the net in the first period. Alex deBrincat added a second-period goal. Jake Walman netted the game-winner 54 seconds into overtime. Ville Husso made 26 saves.

The Wings visit the Sabers Tuesday. Coverage will begin at 7:15 on 99.3 The Lift.

NBA

The Pistons’ team-record losing streak reached 17 games Saturday night, with a 110-101 loss to the Cavaliers. Cade Cunningham scored 23 for Detroit. Bojan Bogdanovic returned to the lineup, and added 22. Jalen Duren collected 11 rebounds.

The Pistons entertain the Grizzlies Wednesday. Coverage will start at 6:35 on 99.3 The Lift.

NFL

The Lions visit the Saints in a 1:00 contest today. Linebacker Alex Anzalone has been ruled out for the contest. Guard Jonah Jackson is questionable. Hear the broadcast on 99.3 The Lift.

The Packers welcome the Chiefs in the Sunday night game. Running back Aaron Jones is out. Cornerback Eric Stokes is doubtful. Hear the broadcast on 99.3 The Lift.
