MTU Hockey Takes Third at GLI
The Michigan Tech hockey team bounced back from Sunday’s opening-round loss at the Great Lakes Invitational tournament, and beat Ferris State 4-2 in yesterday’s consolation game. The Huskies built a 4-0 lead in the second period, despite getting only six shots on goal in each of the first two stanzas. Joel L’Esperance scored his first MTU career goal, and added an assist.

During the game, Olympia Entertainment honored Michigan Tech hockey historian Paul Kerttu, who has attended to all 50 GLIs.
The University of Michigan edged Michigan State 2-1 in the title game.
High School
In high school hockey… Calumet skates at Marquette tonight at 7:00. That game was rescheduled from December 9th because of illnesses on Calumet team.
In boys’ high school basketball today, Ewen-Trout Creek hosts Carney-Nadeau.
Finlandia Holds Off Manchester
The Finlandia University men’s basketball team edged Manchester University 68-65 yesterday. The Lions led by 10 points with four minutes to play, but had to hold off a furious late comeback by the Spartans. Eric Lori sank a couple of free throws with 42 seconds remaining to help seal the win. Lori led the Lions with 20 points.
NHL – Red Wings Fall to Bruins
The Red Wings gave up three goals in the first period, and lost to Boston 5-2 last night. Tomas Tatar and Justin Abdelkader scored for Detroit. The Bruins outshot the Wings 45-30. The Wings host the Devils tomorrow night. Faceoff is at 7:30 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3 WCCY.
NBA – Pistons Visit Orlando
The Pistons play at Orlando tonight. Tip-off is at 7:00 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3 WCCY.
NFL – Suh Suspended
Detroit Lions’ defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh has been suspended for the team’s playoff game against the Cowboys this weekend. Suh is being punished for stepping on the leg of Packers’ quarterback Aaron Rodgers during Sunday’s loss. Suh has said it was an accident, and will appeal.
