– Hancock meets Brighton at 8:40.

The Wisigan Classic will be held this weekend at the John MacInnes Student Ice Arena. Tonight, L’Anse faces Negaunee at 6:00, and Jeffers takes on Tomahawk at 8:00. Tomorrow, L’Anse meets Tomahawk at noon, and Jeffers plays Negaunee at 2:00.

In high school girls basketball last night…
– Houghton lost a 67-66 heartbreaker to Escanaba.
– Calumet got past L’Anse 50-43.
– Chassell cruised past Lake Linden-Hubbell 72-39.
– Dollar Bay-Tamarack City fell to Ewen-Trout Creek 56-25. The Panthers outscored the Blue Bolts 30-0 in the first quarter.
– Jeffers outscored Baraga 48-36.
– The Hancock-Bessemer game was postponed – no makeup date has been announced.
– The Ontonagon-Watersmeet game was postponed – no makeup date has been announced.

In tonight’s only local girls contest, L’Anse visits Ontonagon for a game that was rescheduled from January 22nd.

In boys basketball last night… the Dollar Bay-Tamarack City v Watersmeet game was postponed. No makeup date has been announced.

On the boys schedule tonight…

– Lake Linden-Hubbell travels to Bessemer.
– Dollar Bay-Tamarack City tips off at Baraga.
– Jeffers entertains Ewen-Trout Creek.
– Chassell visits Republic-Michigamme.
– Ontonagon plays at Wakefield-Marenisco.

The Houghton swim teams swept Kingsford yesterday. The girls won 115-60. Samantha Olson took the 200 and 500 yard freestyles. The boys won 111-56. Leo Wheeler took the 200 and 500 freestyles. The Gremlins wrap up their regular season with just one loss, and look forward to the UP Finals in two weeks. See full results from yesterday’s meet here.

Finlandia
Both Finlandia University hockey teams play at home this weekend. The women entertain St. Scholastica today at 2:00 and tomorrow at 12:30. Tomorrow’s contest will include a benefit for the Copper Country Humane Society, with a jersey auction, and other fundraising activities. The men host Northland College tonight at 7:15, and St. Scholastica tomorrow at 7:00. Our coverage of tomorrow’s game will begin at 6:40 on 99.3 The Lift and 993TheLift.com.

The Finlandia men’s basketball team entertains Bay College tomorrow afternoon at 3:00 at the Paavo Nurmi Center. Former Jeffers Jet Caleb Maki plays for the Norse.

MTU/NMU
The Michigan Tech women’s basketball team came from behind to defeat Grand Valley State 68-61 last evening. The Huskies trailed by 11 late in the third quarter, but outscored the Lakers 22-9 in the fourth quarter to claim the victory. Brenna Heise led the Huskies with 16 points and 10 rebounds.

The Tech men’s team held off a late Grand Valley rally to claim a 77-75 victory last night. Bryan Heath scored 23 for Tech, and Kyle Monroe added 22. On a down note, Tommy Lucca left the game with what appeared to be a knee injury.

Both Tech teams host Purdue Northwest tomorrow afternoon. The women’s contest starts at 1:00, and the men’s game at 3:00 at the SDC.

Both Northern Michigan University teams defeated Purdue Northwest last night – the women 63-55, and the men 90-74. Both NMU teams entertain Grand Valley State tomorrow afternoon.

The MTU hockey team skates at Bowling Green tonight and tomorrow night.

The NMU hockey team skates at Alabama-Huntsville tomorrow afternoon and Sunday afternoon.

GLHL
The Portage Lake Pioneers entertain the Eagle River Falcons tonight. Faceoff is at 7:30 at Dee Stadium.

The Calumet Wolverines host the Fond du Lac Bears tomorrow night. Faceoff is at 7:30 at the Colosseum.

NBA
The Detroit Pistons edged the Memphis Grizzlies 104-102 last night. Blake Griffin scored 24 points and grabbed 10 rebounds in his Detroit debut. The Pistons host the Miami Heat tomorrow night.

NHL
The Detroit Red Wings visit the Carolina Hurricanes tonight. Pregame coverage will begin at 6:40 on 99.3 The Lift.

NFL
The New England Patriots take on the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LII Sunday. Kickoff is at 6:30 on 99.3 The Lift.
