Tigers Fall to Royals
Rick Porcello struggled, and the Tigers lost to the Royals 5-2 yesterday. Porcello surrendered four runs on nine hits before leaving in the fourth inning. The Tigers collected only six hits off Jeremy Guthrie and the KC bullpen.
The loss narrows Detroit’s lead over Kansas City in the American League Central Division to a game-and-a-half. With seven games left to play, any combination of seven Detroit win or Kansas City losses will clinch the title for the Tigers.
The Tigers open the final week of the season at home against the White Sox tonight. Kyle Lobstein will start against Chris Bassitt. Hear the first pitch at 7:08 on FM 99.3 and AM 1400, WCCY.
Brewers Blanked by Bucs
After leading the National League Central Division for most of the summer, the Brewers were eliminated from title contention yesterday with a 1-0 loss to the Pirates. Wily Peralta took the hard-luck loss, giving up just a run on five hits over seven innings. Milwaukee made a bid to tie the game in the ninth inning, but Ryan Braun flied out to center field with two runners on base to end the game.
With six games remaining, the Brewers trail Pittsburgh by four-and-a-half games in the race for the second wild card playoff berth.
The Brewers have today off, and open a set at Cincinnati tomorrow night. Mike Fiers will pitch against Johnny Cueto.

The Lions’ defense gave up a touchdown in the first quarter… then shut down the Packers the rest of the game, as Detroit claimed a 19-7 NFC North victory.
