College Basketball

Isabella Lenz scored a career-best 25 points, but the Michigan Tech women’s team fell to Parkside 79-75 in overtime last night. 

Five Huskies scored in double figures, as the Tech men’s team dispatched the Rangers 80-54. Dawson Nordgaard led the balanced attack with 14 points.

Both Tech teams entertain Purdue Northwest tomorrow. The women’s tip-off is at noon, and the men’s at 2:00.

The Northern Michigan women’s team improved to 7-0 with a 70-48 romp over Purdue Northwest last night. Alyssa Hill scored 13.

The NMU men’s squad cruised past the Pride 70-54. Dylan Kuehl netted 16 points.

Both NMU squads host Parkside tomorrow.

College Hockey

The MTU hockey team hosts St. Thomas, with faceoffs tonight at 6:07, and tomorrow at 7:07.

The Northern hockey team entertains Ferris State tonight and tomorrow.

GLHL

The Portage Lake Pioneers skate at Mosinee tonight, and Fond du Lac tomorrow night.

NHL

The Red Wings lost to the Senators 2-1 last night. Ottawa’s Josh Norris scored his second goal of the game with 43 seconds remaining to secure the win. Alex DeBrincat netted Detroit’s only goal. Ville Husso stopped 30 shots.

The Wings host the Avalanche tomorrow. Coverage will begin at 6:45 on 99.3 The Lift.

NBA

The Pistons visit the Knicks tomorrow.

NFL

In last night’s NFL contest, Jake Bates’ 35-yard field goal as time expired gave the Lions a 34-31 victory over the Packers. The winning drive was kept alive on a critical fourth down conversion. Jared Goff threw three touchdown passes – two of them on fourth-and-goal situations. Josh Jacobs ran for three scores for Green Bay. The Lions improve to 12-1, and clinch a playoff berth. The Packers drop to 9-4, and remain in the hunt for a wild card berth.

MLB

Pitcher Wilmer Flores and infielder Eddys Leonard have returned to the Tigers’ system. The two prospects were recently removed from the protected roster and designated for assignment. They cleared waivers, and have signed minor league contracts. Both struggled with injuries last season.

Cross Country Skiing

The Swedetown Trails Club will host a season-opening self-supported freestyle ski race tomorrow. The course will be approximately 7.5km with an interval start beginning at 10:00. It is a free event with a suggested $20 donation to support early season grooming. Prizes will be awarded to top finishers. No advance registration is required.
