College Hockey

The Michigan Tech hockey team outscored Ferris State University 6-4 last night. The scoring started early – Justin Misiak put the Huskies on the board just 34 seconds into the game, and the Bulldogs tied it 26 seconds later. Colin Swoyer, Tristan Ashbrook and Alec Broetzman found the net in the second period. Trenton Bliss scored the game-winner on a third-period power play. Ferris closed the gap after pulling their goalie late in the game, but an empty-netter by Jake Crespi sealed the win.

The Huskies head south to take on Alabama-Huntsville Friday and Saturday.

Tech freshman forward Arvid Caderoth has been named the Western Collegiate Hockey Association Rookie of the Month for January. Caderoth led WCHA rookies with seven points last month.

College Soccer

The Finlandia University men’s soccer team has added a new recruit. Keyjun Hale is a team captain for Bear River High School in Garland, Utah.

NHL

The Detroit Red Wings visit the Tampa Bay Lightning this evening. Detroit has lost six in a row. They will get some help tonight, as Robby Fabbri, Adam Erne, Sam Gagner and Jon Merrill return from COVID-19 protocol. Coverage begins at 5:15 on 99.3 The Lift.

NBA

The Detroit Pistons couldn’t climb out of an early hole, and lost to the Utah Jazz 117-105 last night. After trailing by 28 in the first half, Detroit rallied to make it close down the stretch. Jerami Grant scored 27. Josh Jackson added 22, and Mason Plumlee snared 14 rebounds.

The Pistons continue their western trip Friday, when they play the Suns in Phoenix.

Last night’s game proceeded after an inconclusive COVID-19 test was resolved in Detroit’s favor. That inconclusive test had forced the postponement of Monday’s game against Denver. No make-up date has been announced.

Our Finlandia University men’s hockey coverage begins Friday, when the Lions entertain Marian University. The pregame show will start at 6:55 on 99.3 The Lift and 993TheLift.com.

The Kansas City Chiefs and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers meet in the Super Bowl Sunday. Hear the broadcast on 99.3 The Lift.
