HS Volleyball Tourney Opens Tonight – Monday Sports Wrap

High School

The high school volleyball tournament opens tonight…
• In Division Two, Houghton entertains Escanaba. Coverage will begin at 5:40 on the Voice of the Gremlins, 97.7 The Wolf. Kingsford hosts Sault Ste. Marie in the other district opener.
• In Division Three, Calumet hosts West Iron County. Coverage will begin at 5:40 on the Voice of the Copper Kings, KBear 102.3. Westwood entertains Gwinn in the other district opener.
• In Division Four, District 98, Baraga entertains Chassell, and L’Anse hosts Lake Linden-Hubbell.
 • In Division Four, District 97, Ewen-Trout Creek faces Wakefield-Marenisco, and Bessemer takes on Ironwood. Both games will be played at Bessemer.

College Soccer

The MTU soccer team defeated Saginaw Valley State 2-0 yesterday. Stephanie Yeager and Grace Shaw scored for the Huskies. Erika Gabriel recorded her fifth shutout in net this season.

NHL

The Detroit Red Wings visit the Montreal Canadiens tomorrow. Coverage will begin at 6:45 on 99.3 The Lift.

NBA

The Detroit Pistons’ offense continued to struggle last night, as they lost to the Brooklyn Nets 117-91. Cory Joseph came off the bench to lead Detroit with 13 points.

The Pistons host the Milwaukee Bucks tomorrow night.

MLB

The Houston Astros came from behind to claim a 9-5 victory over the Atlanta Braves in the World Series last night. The Braves still lead the Fall Classic 3-2, with game six set for tomorrow night in Houston.

NFL

Yesterday, the Philadelphia Eagles embarrassed the Detroit Lions 44-6. The Detroit defense gave up 236 rushing yards.

Last night, Cooper Rush’s five-yard touchdown pass with 51 seconds remaining lifted the Dallas Cowboys to a 20-16 victory over the Minnesota Vikings.
