In high school girls basketball last night, Houghton lost to Gwinn 59-54.

In girls action tonight…
– Hancock plays at Calumet – the location has been changed from the original schedule because of repair work going on in the Hancock gym.
– Lake Linden-Hubbell welcomes Ontonagon.
– Chassell hosts Baraga.
– L’Anse entertains Iron Mountain.
– Ewen-Trout Creek welcomes Republic-Michigamme.

On the boys schedule last night…
– Hancock lost to Westwood 61-43.
– Calumet routed Ewen-Trout Creek 72-39.
– Dollar Bay-Tamarack City fell to Bessemer 73-63.
– Jeffers lost to Wakefield-Marenisco 74-60.
– Chassell got past Ontonagon 54-47.
– L’Anse fell to Negaunee 76-43.
– Baraga lost to Watersmeet 79-41.

In tonight’s only local boys game, Houghton hosts Escanaba.

Michigan Tech forward Trenton Bliss has been named the Western Collegiate Hockey Association Rookie of the Week. Bliss scored two goals in the Huskies’ split with Northern Michigan University last weekend. NMU’s Atte Tolvanen was named the WCHA Goaltender of the Week.

NHL
Jimmy Howard made 42 saves, as the Detroit Red Wings defeated the Los Angeles Kings 3-1 last night. Dennis Cholowski, Frans Nielsen and Dylan Larkin scored for Detroit. The Wings visit the Washington Capitals tonight. Pregame coverage begins at 7:10 on 99.3 The Lift.

NBA
The Detroit Pistons lost their fifth straight game last night, 116-102 to the Philadelphia 76ers. Luke Kennard scored a career-best 28 points, as coach Dwayne Casey gave Blake Griffin a night off. Andre Drummond snared 17 rebounds. The Pistons visit the Charlotte Hornets tomorrow. Pregame coverage begins at 6:40 on 99.3 The Lift.

NFL
In last night’s NFL game, the Minnesota Vikings lost to the Seattle Seahawks 21-7. If you played The Wolf Pro Football Challenge, you must have selected at least 10 games correctly to qualify to be our weekly winner.

MLB
The Detroit Tigers have signed a one-year deal with pitcher Tyson Ross. Ross was an All-Star in 2014. He missed the 2016 season after surgery for thoracic outlet syndrome, and compiled an 8-9 record with a 4.15 earned run average last summer for the Padres and Cardinals. Meanwhile, Tigers lost outfield prospect Mike Gerber on waivers to the Giants.
