HS Hockey Tourney Opens Tonight – Thursday Sports Wrap

High School

The high school hockey tournament opens tonight, with the regional semifinals at the SDC…
– Houghton meets Hancock at 6:00
– Calumet takes on Jeffers at 8:00.
We’ll broadcast both games, with pregame coverage beginning around 5:40 on KBear 102.3 and KBear102.com.

In girls high school basketball tonight…
– Hancock entertains Ontonagon. The JV game will begin at 6:00, with varsity tip-off around 7:30.
– Dollar Bay-Tamarack City welcomes Ewen-Trout Creek.
– L’Anse plays at Jeffers.
– Baraga travels to Republic-Michigamme.
– The Lake Linden-Hubbell game at Calumet originally scheduled for tonight has been postponed to tomorrow.

On the boys schedule…
– Houghton journeys to Iron Mountain.
– L’Anse plays at Calumet in a game that was postponed from February 18th.  

Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference

Both Michigan Tech basketball teams wrap up their regular seasons at Northern Michigan University tonight.

NHL

The Detroit Red Wings welcome the Minnesota Wild this evening. Coverage begins at 7:10 on 99.3 The Lift.

NBA

The Detroit Pistons visit the Phoenix Suns tomorrow night. Coverage begins at 8:35 on 99.3 The Lift.

MLB

In spring training baseball, the Detroit Tigers were rained out in Florida yesterday.

The Tigers will face the Tampa Bay Rays this afternoon.

The Milwaukee Brewers played to a 3-3 tie with the San Francisco Giants yesterday. Starter Josh Lindblom gave up a run on two hits over two innings.

The Brewers play the Kansas City Royals today.

Milwaukee plans to keep pitcher Freddy Peralta around for a while. He and the club have agreed to a five-year, 15-million dollar contract extension.

Snowmobiling

The second annual Sledheads Shootout will be held Saturday at the Range Snowmobile Club in Atlantic Mine. Registration will open at 8:00. Snowmobile racing will start at 11:00. Admission for spectators is free. See full details here.

Curling

The Copper Country Curling Club will hold an open house at the Drill House Rink Saturday between 1:00 and 4:00. Instructors will help you learn the basics. Please bring a clean pair of tennis shoes to wear on the ice.

Our Finlandia University coverage continues Saturday, as the Lions women’s basketball team faces Pine Manor in the semifinals of the ACAA tournament in Milwaukee. The pregame show will begin around 6:40 on 99.3 The Lift and 993TheLift.com.
