MLB
The Detroit Tigers are cutting ties with reliever Bruce Rondón. Rondón was once considered the Tigers’ closer of the future, but inconsistent performance and attitude problems derailed him. He was one of six players eligible for arbitration to whom the team needed to offer contracts by 8:00 last evening, or allow to become free agents. The Tigers did issue qualifying offers to Nicholas Castellanos, Shane Greene, Alex Wilson, José Iglesias and James McCann. Rondón is free to sign with any team, including the Tigers, who could offer him a minor league deal.

The Milwaukee Brewers have avoided arbitration by signing contracts with catcher Steven Vogt and reliever Jeremy Jeffress. They extended offers to Corey Knebel, Jimmy Nelson, Hernan Perez and Jonathan Villar. They declined to tender an offer to reliever Jared Hughes.
