MLB

The Cleveland Indians scored two late runs, and defeated the Detroit Tigers 4-2 last night. Jordan Zimmermann turned in a solid start, allowing two runs over six innings. Buck Farmer gave up the winning run in the eighth inning, and Cleveland added an insurance tally off Joe Jiménez in the ninth. Dawel Lugo homered for Detroit.

That series wraps up this afternoon in the Motor City. Daniel Norris will start against Mike Clevinger. Pregame coverage will begin at 12:45 on 99.3 The Lift.

The Milwaukee Brewers salvaged one win in their series against the Saint Louis Cardinals with a 4-1 victory yesterday. Keston Hirua homered and drove in three runs. Jordan Lyles pitched five scoreless innings, then left as the Cards scored their only run in the sixth.

The Brewers have today off, and begin a set against the Cubs in Chicago tomorrow.

Saint Louis leads the National League Central Division, with the Chicago Cubs now two games back, and the Brewers five-and-a-half out in third place.

NFL

The Detroit Lions close their NFL exhibition schedule tonight against the Browns in Cleveland. Kickoff is at 7:30 on 99.3 The Lift.

A day after cutting running back Zach Zenner, the Detroit Lions signed free agent rookie running back James Williams yesterday. Williams was not drafted out of Washington State this spring, but had spent brief stints with the Kansas City Chiefs and the Indianapolis Colts. He’s likely headed for the practice squad.

The Green Bay Packers conclude their preseason campaign at home against the Kansas City Chiefs tonight.

Yesterday, the Packers traded outside linebacker Reggie Gilbert to the Tennessee Titans in exchange for a seventh-round draft pick.

Golf

Registration is still open for Saturday’s Calumet Wolverines golf outing. Four person teams will begin with a shotgun start at 10:00 at the Calumet Golf Club. The cost is $120.00 per team, which includes a meal. Proceeds help support the Wolverines hockey team. To sign up, call the Calumet Golf Club at 337-3913.
