HS Boys Hoops Season Opens Tonight – Tuesday Sports Wrap

High School
The boys basketball season tips off tonight…
– Lake Linden-Hubbell plays at Hancock. Our broadcast will begin around 7:00 on KBear 102.3 and KBear102.com.
– Calumet entertains Negaunee.
– L’Anse visits Westwood.
– Dollar Bay-Tamarack City hosts Republic-Michigamme.
– Baraga plays at Jeffers.
– Ontonagon travels to Watersmeet.
– Ewen-Trout Creek welcomes Wakefield-Marenisco.

Usually, the girls schedule begins a week before the boys schedule. That has been switched this year, because of a potential conflict between the boys state championships and an NCAA playoff game at the Breslin Center in East Lansing.

In high school hockey, Hancock plays at Houghton tonight.

The high school swim season opens today, as Houghton competes at Westwood.

Finlandia
The Finlandia University men’s basketball team will entertain North Central University tonight. Tip-off is at 5:00 at the Paavo Nurmi Center.

MTU
Two Michigan Tech hockey players have been honored by the Western Collegiate Hockey Association. Gavin Gould is the Offensive Player of the Week, after scoring a hat trick against Alaska Saturday night. Tyler Rockwell is the Defensive Player of the Week. He scored his first collegiate goal, and had two assists against the Nanooks on Saturday.

NMU
The Northern Michigan University hockey team skates at Notre Dame tonight.

NHL
The Detroit Red Wings fell behind early, and lost to the Columbus Blue Jackets 7-5 last night. Columbus built a 3-0 lead in the first period against Jimmy Howard. Jonathan Bernier played the final two periods. Anthony Mantha had two goals and an assist for Detroit. The Wings entertain the Saint Louis Blues tomorrow. NBA
The Detroit Pistons welcome the New York Knicks tonight. Pregame coverage begins at 6:35 on 99.3 The Lift.

NFL
In last night’s NFL game, the Houston Texans doubled up the Tennessee Titans 34-17. If you played The Wolf Pro Football Challenge, you must have selected at least 12 games correctly to qualify to be our weekly winner.
