The Lake Linden-Hubbell Sports Booster Club will hold a fall fundraiser on Saturday, October 15th. A social period will begin at 4:30 at the Lakes Lounge. Dinner will be served at 5:30, and will be followed by music from 7:00 until 10:00. The cost is $40.00 per person. Tickets are available at home varsity athletic events, and at the principal’s office at the high school.

Finlandia
Both Finlandia University soccer teams entertain Northland College today. The women’s game starts at 3:30 at McAfee Field, and the men’s contest will follow at 5:00.

Edwin Encarnacion’s three-run homer in the bottom of the 11th inning powered the Toronto Blue Jays to a 5-2 victory over the Baltimore Orioles in the American League Wild Card game last night. The Jays advance to face the Texas Rangers in the Divisional Series. Tonight, the San Francisco Giants will face the New York Mets in the National League Wild Card game.

2016 Justin Fitch Ruck LogoThe Justin Fitch Memorial Ruck will begin at Saturday at noon on the lawn outside the Walker Fine Arts Building on the MTU campus. A ruck is a three, six, 12 or 22-hour march with weighted backpacks to symbolize the burdens veterans suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and other war-related illnesses carry every day. It honors Michigan Tech alumnus and Army veteran Justin Fitch, who lost lost his battle with cancer last fall. Money raised will go to Active Heroes, a non-profit that assists returning soldiers and their families.
