NBA

The NBA finals open tonight, as the Nuggets host the Heat.

The Pistons have their new head coach. Former Suns coach Monty Williams has reportedly agreed to a six-year contract. Phoenix fired Williams several weeks ago, just two years after he led the Suns to the NBA Finals, and a year after he as named NBA coach of the year. Initial reports say that the deal guarantees Williams $78 million, and could pass $100 million if incentives are met.

MLB

The Tigers edged the Rangers 3-2 yesterday. Newcomer Jake Marisnick singled home Tyler Nevin with the winning run in the sixth. Joey Wentz pitched into the fifth, allowing seven hits but just one run.

The Tigers have today off, and visit the White Sox tomorrow. Reese Olson has been called from Toledo to make his first major league start. Coverage will begin at 7:45 on 99.3 The Lift.

To make room for Olson on the roster, reliever Braden Bristo has been sent back to the Mud Hens.

Marisnick arrived just in time to take over for Riley Greene in center field. The leg injury Greene suffered in Tuesday’s game has been diagnosed as a stress fracture in his left fibula. He will be out indefinitely.

The Brewers got past the Blue Jays 4-2 last night. Julio Teheran gave up a run over six innings, and earned his first Milwaukee win. Abraham Toro homered.

That series wraps up at Toronto this afternoon. Freddy Peralta will pitch against Kevin Gausman.

Toro had just been brought up to fill in for Jesse Winker, who has been added to the injured list with a neck problem.
