MLB

The Detroit Tigers lost 4-3 to the Chicago White Sox last night. Rookie starter Casey Mize opened the game with five no-hit innings. Detroit’s offense broke through with three runs in the top of the sixth. Daz Cameron’s two-run single was the big blow. It was his first major league hit. The Sox came back with four in the bottom of the frame, chasing Mize, who was charged with two of the runs. José Cisnero gave up the other two, and took the loss.

That series continues in Chicago tonight. Michael Fulmer will start against Reynaldo Lopez. Coverage will begin at 6:45 on 99.3 The Lift.

Ryan Braun’s sacrifice fly drove in Christian Yelich in the bottom of the ninth, as the Milwaukee Brewers edged the Chicago Cubs 1-0 last evening. Brandon Woodruff turned in seven strong innings, striking out 12, and giving up just one hit. Devin Williams gave up Chicago’s only other hit in the eighth, and Josh Hader closed the game. Each of them struck out two batters.

That series continues tonight. Brett Anderson will pitch against Kyle Hendricks.

A member of the San Francisco Giants organization has tested positive for COVID-19. Last night’s game against the San Diego Padres was called off minutes before the first pitch. Tonight’s contest has also been canceled.

The Stars and Golden Knights continue the Western Conference final tonight, with Dallas leading that series 2-1.

Finlandia

The Capital Athletic Conference has canceled all league contests through the end of 2020. The league, which includes Finlandia University, had already called off its fall activities. League officials say they’ll review the COVID-19 situation later this year, and decide whether league competition, including the post-season basketball tournament, can resume. The decision does not immediately affect Finlandia’s basketball program, which does not routinely play other league members during the regular season, but is eligible to qualify for the post-season tournaments. The CAC says it will support efforts by member schools to play games against regional opponents, in accordance with local COVID-19 guidelines.
