On the volleyball schedule tonight…
• Dollar Bay-Tamarack City plays at L’Anse.
Calumet, Houghton and Hancock will compete at the WestPAC volleyball tournament tomorrow. Games will be held at both Houghton and Hancock high schools. The seeds and schedule will be announced this morning. Listen for coverage of Houghton and Calumet’s games on 97.7 The Wolf and KBear 102.3.
In cross country yesterday…
• Houghton swept the WestPAC final meet. The boys claimed the top four positions, with Eric Weiss taking individual honors. Negaunee finished a distant second in the team competition, followed by Calumet and Westwood. Houghton reigns as the WestPAC boys Team of the Year, and Weiss earned Runner of the Year honors. The Gremlin girls took three of the top five positions, with Ingrid Seagren finishing second individually, behind Ishpeming’s Lola Korpi. Negaunee was second in the team competition, followed by Calumet, Westwood and Hancock. Negaunee was named girls Team of the Year, and Korpi the top girls runner. • At the Copper Mountain Conference meet, Jeffers won the boys team competition, with Dollar Bay-Tamarack City second. Nik Thomas of the Blue Bolts won individual honors. See full results here. On the girls side, Dollar Bay edged Ironwood by a point for the team title. Aubrey Smith of Ironwood was the individual winner. See full results here.
The CMC All-Conference teams were announced after the meet. Dollar Bay’s Nik Thomas was named the men’s Most Valuable Runner. Local runners joining him on the first team include Amos Norland of the Blue Bolts, Jonah Nordine from Ewen-Trout Creek, Benton Rajala and Simone Barp from Jeffers, and Kalvin Kytta from Chassell. Natalie Stone from Gogebic was honored as the women’s Most Valuable Runner. Local members of the first team include Makenna Uotila from Ontonagon, Taryn Maki from Dollar Bay, and Lily Etelamaki from Chassell. See the full rosters here.

College Soccer
The Finlandia University women’s soccer team blanked Maranatha Baptist 1-0 yesterday. Dasia Knowles scored the game’s only goal.
The Finlandia men’s team hosts Concordia-Moorhead Sunday afternoon at 3:00.
The Michigan Tech soccer team hosts Northwood this afternoon at 2:30, and Davenport University Sunday morning at 11:00.
College Volleyball
The Tech and Northern volleyball teams play at the Midwest Regional Crossover Tournament in Hammond, Indiana, this weekend. The Huskies open against Lewis this afternoon, and face the Missouri University of Science and Technology tonight.
The Finlandia volleyball team plays at the Wisconsin-Eau Claire tournament this weekend. The Lions open against Illinois Wesleyan this afternoon.
College Hockey
The Michigan Tech hockey team hosts Notre Dame for a non-conference game tonight at 7:07. The Huskies will entertain the US National Under-18 Development Team in an exhibition tomorrow at 7:07.
The Northern hockey team hosts the US National Team tonight, and Notre Dame tomorrow.
The Finlandia women’s hockey team welcomes the Hockey Training Institute Stars from Ontario for an exhibition tomorrow night at 5:00.
College Football
The Michigan Tech football team plays at Northern Michigan in the annual Miner’s Cup game tomorrow at noon.
The Finlandia football game against Martin Luther University has been canceled.
College Softball
The Finlandia University softball team will play a doubleheader against Bay College tomorrow at 1:30 at the Houghton High School field.
NHL
The Detroit Red Wings couldn’t hold an early lead, and lost their season-opener to the Tampa Bay Lightning 7-6 in overtime last night. The Lightning scored three times in the final seven minutes of regulation to force the extra period, and Ondrej Palat’s goal in overtime was the game-winner. Tyler Bertuzzi had a hat trick for Detroit. Alex Nedeljkovic took the loss in net.

NBA
The Detroit Pistons host the Philadelphia 76ers in their final preseason game tonight. Listen for selected regular-season Pistons games on 99.3 The Lift.
MLB
The Los Angeles Dodgers edged the San Francisco Giants 2-1 last night. The Dodgers won their divisional series 3-2, and will face the Atlanta Braves in the National League Championship Series beginning tomorrow night.
The American League Championship Series starts this evening, as the Houston Astros host the Boston Red Sox.
NFL
In last night’s NFL game, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers held off the Philadelphia Eagles 28-22.

Lake Superior Performance Rally
This weekend’s Lake Superior Performance Rally will be based out of Marquette, although some of the racing will still take place in southern Baraga and Houghton Counties.
