Huskies Improve in National Poll

NHL – Red Wings Host Bruins
The Detroit Red Wings will host the Bruins tonight. Faceoff is at 8:00 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3 WCCY.
NBA – Pistons
The Detroit Pistons’ next preseason game will be this morning at 11:00 at Charlotte. The game will be played in front of thousands of middle school students and teachers as part of the Hornets’ “Cool School Field Trip” – hence the early start time. We will carry select Pistons games again this season on AM 1400 and FM 99.3 WCCY.
The Pistons will be without guard Jody Meeks for the next two months or more. Meeks has been out with what were thought to be lower back spasms. An MRI found a more serious issue, which will require extended rest. The news about Guard Kentavious Caldwell-Pope’s strained knee continues to be positive. He could be back on the court by the end of the month.
Tigers Look Forward
With the Tigers’ season over, team General Manager Dave Dombrowski has begun looking ahead to next year. Pitcher Max Scherzer is a free agent, but the rest of the starting rotation will be back… DOMBROWSKI A. Designated hitter Victor Martinez and outfielder Torii Hunter are also free agents. At a press conference yesterday, Dombrowski identified three key areas he’s working on… DOMBROWSKI B. And he reminded us that… even though the playoffs ended earlier than we wanted… the Tigers had a good year… DOMBROWSKI C.
Meanwhile, Brewers’ outfielder Ryan Braun has started batting practice. Braun told club officials that he feels good after undergoing a procedure to deaden a nerve in his right hand that has caused pain when he grips a bat. Doctors could not guarantee that the procedure would eliminate the pain. Time will tell.
Calumet will continue its drive for the football playoffs Friday night at Ironwood. Lake Linden-Hubbell will host North Dickinson Saturday afternoon. Hear both broadcasts on KBear 102.3 and KBear102.com.
