At the Negaunee Baseball Invitational Saturday…
• Calumet fell to Marquette 10-0. The Copper Kings were held hitless in a four-inning game.
• Houghton downed Calumet 12-9. Hudson Markham had four hits for the Gremlins, and Cam Anderson had three for the Copper Kings.
• Houghton fell to Negaunee 11-0. The Gremlins were limited to four hits.

• Jeffers swept Westwood 9-1 and 12-1.

MLB

Kerry Carpenter hit two home runs, as the Tigers thumped the Astros 8-2 Saturday. Mark Canha hit a grand slam, as Detroit exploded for seven runs in the second inning. Tarik Skubal pitched into the seventh, and gave up both Houston runs on seven hits, while striking out seven.

The Tigers host the Astros in the season finale this afternoon. Jack Flaherty will start against Justin Verlander. Coverage will begin at 1:15 on 99.3 The Lift.

Detroit starter Kenta Maeda has landed on the injured list with a viral infection. For the moment, outfielder Akil Baddoo has been called up from Toledo, but he’s expected to be returned after today’s contest, with Matt Manning called up to fill Maeda’s rotation spot.

Rhys Hoskins’ three-run homer in the bottom of the seventh lifted the Brewers to a 5-3 victory over the Cardinals Saturday. Freddy Peralta surrendered three runs on eight hits over six innings, and struck out eight.

The Brewers entertain the Cardinals again this afternoon. Bryse Wilson will start against Miles Mikolas.

Newly-acquired pitcher Mitch White has been added to Milwaukee’s active roster, after his contract was purchased from the Giants. Pitcher Kevin Herget was optioned to Nashville to make room.
