High School

In hockey last night…
• Houghton buried Jeffers 8-2. The Gremlins got off to a quick start, scoring four times in the first period. Mikey Maillette logged a hat trick. Camden Markham had a goal and three assists. Landon Stevens had two goals and an assist. Noah Kreipke and Jay Halonen each found the net once, and Gab Carlson had three assists for Houghton. Kailob Bianco and Trayton Helminen scored for the Jets. Troy Povich earned the win in net, as the Gremlins outshot Jeffers 49-15.
• Hancock fell to Marquette 5-1. Bennett Sturos scored the Bulldogs’ only goal. Dan Wroblewski made 32 saves in net.

In girls basketball last night…
• Hancock held off Calumet 45-39. The Bulldogs used a late second-quarter run to build a 12-point halftime lead. The Copper Kings closed the gap to two in the final minute, but free throws by Lana Aho and Bella Hebert sealed the win for Hancock. Hebert led all scorers with 19 points. Caitlin Strom paced the Copper Kings with 11.
• Lake Linden-Hubbell got past Wakefield-Marenisco 40-33.
• Ewen-Trout Creek outscored Forest Park 60-45.
• Ontonagon downed Watersmeet 57-30.

In boys action…
• Ontonagon lost to Watersmeet 68-58.

College Basketball

The Northern Michigan men’s basketball team entertains Lawrence University tonight.

NHL

The Red Wings lost to the Hurricanes 1-0 last night. Ville Husso stopped 26 shots, and took the tough loss in net. Dylan Larkin left the game in the third period with an injury. After the game, coach Derek Lalonde said Larkin would not be available for tonight’s game, but did not expound further.

The Wings visit the Wild tonight. Coverage begins at 7:15 on 99.3 The Lift.

NBA

The Pistons visit the Hornets this evening.
