In high school boys basketball last night…
• Calumet edged Dollar Bay-Tamarack City 37-35. Gavin Sturos stole the ball with eight seconds remaining, and passed it to Blake Tarvis, who sank a three-pointer from the corner with two seconds remaining to win the game. Alan Bjorn led a balanced Copper Kings attack with 10 points. Liam Tourtillott scored 18 for the Blue Bolts, and Will Beaudoin added 11.
• Ewen-Trout Creek downed Wakefield-Marenisco 54-46.
In girls play…
• Houghton outscored Calumet 49-41. Caitlyn Strom of the Copper Kings led all scorers with 20 points. Eva Gerard scored 13 for the Gremlins, Ellie Hainault added 11, and Clea Ollanketo chipped in 10.
• Ewen-Trout Creek defeated Wakefield-Marenisco 42-27.
Yesterday’s Ontonagon at Watersmeet girls-boys doubleheader was postponed, and will be played tonight.

Two members of the Houghton High School boys ski team have advanced to the state finals. At the regional tournament at Crystal Mountain in Thompsonville yesterday, Jack Haeussler and Eli Heathman qualified for the D2 state meet, which will be held February 26th at Nubs Nob. Both finished in the top-10 in the slalom, with Heathman third, and Haeussler seventh.
The Houghton boys placed fifth in the team competition, and the girls seventh.

Citing unsafe trail conditions caused by warm weather and lack of snow, organizers of the CopperDog 150 have canceled this year’s races, which were scheduled for the first weekend in March. Other events planned for CopperDog weekend will proceed, including the new CopperPull and CopperDash.
