Houghton Cross Country Sweeps Again – Thursday Sports Wrap

High School

In high school volleyball last night…
• Ontonagon v Ewen-Trout Creek – no report.

On tonight’s schedule…
• Calumet visits Westwood.
• Hancock travels to Ishpeming.
• Lake Linden-Hubbell plays at Baraga.
• Jeffers entertains Bessemer.

Both Houghton cross country teams claimed easy victories at the WestPAC meet at Negaunee yesterday.
• The boys took five of the top nine positions, and easily outpointed runner-up Negaunee. Birk Seagren claimed individual honors, with Ben Hemmer third. Hancock finished fifth, with David Bylkas placing 11th individually.
• The girls filled five of the top 10 positions, to finish well ahead of second-place Hancock. Ishpeming’s Lola Korpi took individual honors. Roman Peterlin and Tessa Rautiola of the Gremlins placed second and third. Ella Keranen and Rayna Towles of the Bulldogs finished fifth and sixth.

NHL

The Red Wings open their season tonight at New Jersey. Because of NFL football on 99.3 The Lift, coverage of the Wings game will begin at 7:15 on KBear 102.3.

• The Phillies outscored the Braves 10-2. Philadelphia leads that series 2-1, and will host game four tonight.
• The Diamondbacks stunned the Dodgers 4-2. Arizona sweeps that series 3-0.

NFL

In tonight’s NFL game, the Chiefs host the Broncos. Radio coverage will begin at 7:30 on 99.3 The Lift. Television coverage will be restricted to Amazon Prime subscribers.
