High School
At the annual MacInnes Holiday Classic last night…
• Houghton claimed the title for the second straight year, with a 4-1 victory over Hancock. Noah Maillette’s first period goal gave the Gremlins an early lead. Oscar Peterson added a tally early in the second period, before Luke Mikkola of the Bulldogs scored on a power play to narrow the gap. A power play goal from Tanner Flachs and a short-handed tally from Connor Arko put the game away for Houghton. The Gremlins improve to 12-0 on the season. Hear the game replay here.
• Fond du Lac defeated Calumet 4-1 in the consolation game. The Cardinals found the net twice within 24 seconds early in the second period to open up a lead. Matt Frantti pulled the Copper Kings to within a point, but Fond du Lac netted two late empty-netters to seal the win. Hear the game replay here.
Houghton’s Connor Arko was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player, with a goal and an assist in each contest. Members of the all-tournament team include forwards Mike Maillette from Houghton, Cam Anderson from Calumet, and Tevin Stukel from Hancock; defensemen Connor Raffaelli from Houghton and Todd Kilpela from Hancock; and goalie Spencer Shober from Fond du Lac.
In the JV tournament, Houghton blanked Calumet 4-0 in the title game, and Fond du Lac shaded Hancock 3-2 in the consolation match.
In boys basketball last evening…
• Jeffers got past Westwood 69-60. The Jets improve to 7-1 on the season.
In girls play yesterday…
• Baraga got past Kingsford 49-43 in a semifinal game at the Negaunee Holiday Tournament. The Vikings improve to 5-1, and will take on unbeaten Negaunee this afternoon at 3:00 for the tourney title. The Miners defeated Manton 57-50 in yesterday’s other semifinal.

• Jeffers plays at Lakeland High School in Minocqua this afternoon.
College Hockey
At the 57th Great Lakes Invitational hockey tournament in Grand Rapids yesterday…
• Michigan Tech spotted Alaska a 2-0 lead after the first two periods, then roared back to claim a 3-2 overtime victory. Ryland Mosley scored both third-period goals. Logan Pietila netted the game-winner 35 seconds into the extra stanza. Blake Pietila stopped 23 shots.
• Seventh-ranked Michigan State got two goals from Jeremy Davidson, and defeated Ferris State 4-1.
The Huskies and Spartans will fight for the title tonight at 7:00. The Bulldogs and Nanooks will face off in the consolation match this afternoon at 3:30.
College Basketball
The Michigan Tech men’s basketball team welcomes Algoma University tomorrow at 1:00.
The Northern Michigan men’s team hosts Ripon College tomorrow afternoon.
GLHL
The Portage Lake Pioneers and Calumet Wolverines play another home-and-home series this weekend. Games begin at 7:30 tonight at Dee Stadium, and 6:00 tomorrow night at the Colosseum.

The Red Wings host the Predators tonight. Coverage will begin at 6:45 on 99.3 The Lift.
NBA
The Pistons couldn’t hold a 19-point halftime lead, and fell to the Celtics 128-122 in overtime last night. Cade Cunningham had 31 points and nine assists. Jalen Duren grabbed 14 rebounds. Detroit’s 28th consecutive loss ties the all-time NBA record, set by the 76ers across two seasons in 2015.
The Pistons entertain the Raptors tomorrow.
NFL

• Joe Flacco threw for 309 yards and three touchdowns, as the Browns outscored the Jets 37-20.
