High School

In high school volleyball last night…
• Houghton defeated Hancock 3-1 (24-26, 27-25, 27-25, 26-24) in a hard-fought Copper Spike game .
• Jeffers swept Lake Linden-Hubbell 3-0 (25-16, 25-18, 25-17). Kaeda Rajala had eight kills and three blocks. Mia Nordstrom had seven kills and 17 digs. Sara Johnson had 11 assists, four aces and 24 digs. For the Lakes, Abi Codere and Rebecca Lyons each had four kills. Alli Corrigan recorded five aces 10 digs. Payton Goldsworthy had 12 assists.
• Dollar Bay-Tamarack City blanked Watersmeet 3-0 (25-12, 25-19, 25-17). Adelyn Swain had 13 kills for the Blue Bolts. Keira Isaacson had five aces, and Nora Keranen had 15 assists.
• L’Anse lost to West Iron County 3-0. Mylee Londo led the Purple Hornets with 20 kills and 2 aces, Keira Dakota had 10 kills, Brooklyn Dompier had nine kills and Madi Peterson had five kills.
• Baraga v Bessemer – no report.
• Ewen-Trout Creek v Wakefield-Marenisco – no report.

In volleyball tonight, Baraga plays at Chassell.

On the final night of the regular high school football season…
• Houghton welcomes Hancock for the annual Copper Bowl game. Coverage will begin at 6:40 on the Voice of the Gremlins, 97.7 The Wolf.
• Calumet travels to Charlevoix. Coverage will begin at 5:40 on the Voice of the Copper Kings, KBear 102.3.
• Lake Linden-Hubbell travels to Ontonagon.

The U.P. Cross Country Finals will be run tomorrow at Gladstone.

College Hockey

The Michigan Tech hockey team hosts Wisconsin tonight at 7:07, and tomorrow at 6:07. Former Huskies team captain Alec Broetzman has been added to the MTU staff as an assistant coach.

The Northern Michigan hockey team skates at Arizona State tonight and tomorrow.

College Football

The MTU football team hosts Ferris State tomorrow at 1:00.

The NMU football squad entertains Grand Valley State.

College Volleyball

The Tech volleyball team plays at Saginaw Valley State tonight, and Wayne State tomorrow.

The Northern volleyball team plays at Wayne State tonight, and Saginaw Valley State tomorrow.

College Soccer

The Michigan Tech soccer team visits Parkside this afternoon, and Purdue Northwest Sunday.

The Northern women’s team plays at Purdue Northwest this afternoon, and Parkside Sunday.

The Northern men’s team hosts Saint Cloud State Sunday afternoon.

NHL

The Red Wings entertain the Senators tomorrow afternoon. Coverage will begin at 12:45 on 99.3 The Lift.

NBA

The Pistons edged the Thunder 118-116 in preseason play last night. Ausar Thompson led Detroit with 18 points and eight rebounds.

The Pistons conclude their preseason campaign at Dallas tonight. Listen for selected regular-season Pistons games on 99.3 The Lift.

MLB

In the American League Championship series, the Astros routed the Rangers 10-3. That series is tied 2-2, with the Rangers hosting game five tonight.

In the National League Championship Series, the Diamondbacks edged the Phillies 2-1. Philadelphia leads that series 2-1, with game four at Arizona tonight.

The tough luck continues for former Tigers’ pitcher Michael Fulmer. Currently with the Cubs, Fulmer underwent elbow surgery yesterday, and will miss the entire 2024 season.

NFL

In last night’s NFL contest, the Jaguars outscored the Saints 31-24. 

The Lions visit the Ravens for a 1:00 game Sunday on 99.3 The Lift.

The Packers travel to Denver for a 4:25 contest Sunday.
