At the Division One U.P. golf finals yesterday…
• Houghton won the boys title yesterday, outscoring Marquette by five strokes at the Sage Run course. Calumet came in third. Marino Pisani of the Gremlins finished second individually. Kip Kangas of the Copper Kings tied for sixth place.
• In the girls tournament at Sweetgrass, Houghton finished seventh, and Calumet eighth.

• Hancock finished fourth in the boys team competition, with Chad Nordstrom placing fifth individually.

Chassell, Dollar Bay-Tamarack City, and Lake Linden-Hubbell will compete at the Division Three finals at the Highland Golf Course in Escanaba today.
Slow Pitch Softball
In Copper Country Slow Pitch Softball League play last evening…
• McGann’s/Northern Auto took two from Pat’s Foods/Bucko’s, 10-5 and 11-5.
• Downtowner Two outscored Auto Pro/Thermoanalytics 27-21, then lost to Amy J’s Pasty and Bake Shop 23-6.
College Hockey
The Finlandia University men’s hockey team has added a new recruit. Connor Nagy is a defenseman from Trenton, Michigan.
College Soccer
The Finlandia men’s soccer team has also introduced a new player. Alexis Murillo was a three-year team captain at his high school in Saginaw, Texas.
NHL
The NHL Eastern Conference championship series opened last night with the Rangers routing the Lightning 6-2. That set continues tomorrow in New York.
The Western Conference final resumes this evening, as the Avalanche host the Oilers. Colorado leads that series 1-0.
NBA
The NBA championship series begins tonight, as the Warriors entertain the Celtics.
MLB
Tarik Skubal sparkled, as the Tigers blanked the Twins 5-0 last night. The only healthy member of Detroit’s starting rotation gave up just two hits over seven innings. Harold Castro and Jonathan Schoop each had two hits, and drove in two runs.
Those teams will play again this afternoon in Detroit. Alex Faedo will pitch against Chris Archer. Coverage will begin at 12:50 on 99.3 The Lift.
Christopher Morel’s sacrifice fly off Hoby Milner in the bottom of the 10th inning gave the Cubs a 4-3 victory over the Brewers last night. In his major league debut, Jason Alexander turned in a quality start, giving up three runs over seven innings.
The Brewers host the Padres tonight. Adrian Houser will start against Sean Manaea.
Fishing
The 19th annual Knights of Columbus Walleye Fishing Tournament will take place Saturday on Portage and Torch Lakes. Fishing will be open from 7:00 until 3:00. The cost is $100 per two to four-person team. There will be three prizes for total weight, three tagged fish worth $1,000 each, and a “big fish” side pot. Register at the Monte Carlo in Hancock tomorrow between 6:00 until 7:00.
