Brewers Win Brawl-Marred Game
Mike Fiers pitched five scoreless innings, as the Brewers defeated the Marlins 4-2. Fiers struck out eight, but left the game after one of his pitches hit Miami batter Giancarlo Stanton in the face. Stanton lay on the ground at home plate for several minutes… then was taken away in an ambulance. Reed Johnson replaced him at the plate… and struck out by swinging at an inside pitch that hit him on the hand. The benches cleared, and Marlins’ manager Mike Redmond and third baseman Casey McGehee were ejected. Miami pitcher Anthony DeSclafani and bench coach Rob Leary were thrown out in the sixth inning, after DeSclafani hit Carlos Gomez. Early reports are that Stanton suffered multiple fractures, dental damage, and lacerations.
The Brewers begin a home set against the Reds tonight. Kyle Lohse will start against Mat Latos.
