At the WestPAC Conference golf tournament at Timberstone yesterday…
• Hancock and Houghton tied for first on the boys side. The Gremlins were declared winners in a tie-breaker. Calumet placed fourth. Jackson Sintkowski of the Bulldogs medaled with a 74. Jack Sayen and Mario Pisani of the Gremlins finished second and third. See full results here.
• On the girls side, Calumet finished first. Lily Keranen placed second individually. See full results here.

After the meet, Houghton was named WestPAC boys team champion, and Calumet was honored as the girls team champion. Houghton’s Corey Markham and Calumet’s Karen LaCross were honored as Coaches of the Year. Hancock’s Jackson Sintkowski was named Boys Player of the Year, and Calumet’s Maretta Kangas was named Girls Player of the Year.

In golf today…
• Houghton, Hancock and Calumet will compete at the Calumet course.

In track and field today…
• Calumet, Houghton and Hancock compete at the WestPAC Conference meet at Ishpeming.
• The Copper Mountain Conference meet will be staged at Baraga.

Negaunee swept the WestPAC Middle School track meet at Houghton yesterday. The Gremlins took second on the boys side, and Calumet was runner-up on the girls side. See full results here.

In high school soccer…
• The Houghton girls team opens the district tournament this afternoon at Traverse City St. Francis.

Calumet High School basketball standout Caitlyn Strom has committed to play next season at Wisconsin-Platteville.

NHL

The Eastern Conference championship series opens tonight, as the Rangers host the Panthers.

NBA

The Eastern Conference championship series began last night, with the Celtics downing the Pacers 133-128 in overtime.

The Western Conference final starts tonight, as the Timberwolves welcome the Mavericks.

MLB

The Tigers fell behind early last night, and lost to the Royals 10-3. Casey Mize couldn’t make it through the second inning, and was charged with six runs on nine hits. Colt Keith had three hits for the second straight game. Matt Vierling had two, including a triple in the fourth inning that plated two runs.

The Tigers have lost three straight, and will wrap up that series at Kansas City this afternoon. Tarik Skubal will start against Cole Ragans. Coverage will begin at 1:45 on 99.3 The Lift.

Christian Yelich’s two-run triple in the eighth lifted the Brewers to a 7-5 victory over the Marlins last evening. Robert Gasser gave up all five Miami runs over six innings.

The Brewers face the Marlins again tonight. Freddy Peralta will start against Jesús Luzardo.

The back problem that forced Milwaukee starter Joe Ross to leave Monday’s game early has landed him on the injured list. Tobias Myers has been brought back from Nashville to fill in.

Hockey

Organizers of the drive to replace the boards at the storied Ahmeek Ice Rink will celebrate their success today. $100,000 has been raised to upgrade the facility. The Keweenaw Community Foundation will present the grant check to the project team today at 5:30. Those involved in the effort and community members are invited to be part of a group photo.
