Hoops Losses for Tech Men, FinnU Women – Thursday Sports Wrap

Finlandia
The Finlandia University women’s basketball team dropped a 95-52 decision at Concordia-Moorhead last night. The Cobbers scored the first 10 points of the game, and didn’t let up. Julia Daavettila led the Lions with 11 points. Molly Berg and Kelsie Richards scored eight points each.

MTU
The MTU men’s basketball team lost 84-69 to Minnesota-Duluth last night. The Huskies held a brief, early lead, but trailed by halftime, and weren’t able to come back. Kyle Monroe had 27 points and nine rebounds to lead Tech. Freshman Isaac Appleby added 11 points.

The schedule has been set for games in the NCAA Division II Midwest Regional volleyball tournament. The eighth-seeded Michigan Tech squad will face top-seed Lewis University next Thursday at 8:30 in Romeoville, Illinois.

NHL
The Edmonton Oilers broke open a close game with three goals in the second period, and slammed the Detroit Red Wings 6-2 last night. Tomáš Tatar and Niklas Kronwall found the net for Detroit.  Jimmy Howard gave up the first four goals, and was replaced by Petr Mrazek midway through the game. Former MTU Husky Jujhar Khaira scored his second goal of the season for the Oilers. The Wings face the Rangers in New York tomorrow night. Pregame coverage begins at 6:40 on 99.3 The Lift.

NBA
The Detroit Pistons will play at Oklahoma City tomorrow night.

NFL
In today’s NFL games, the Detroit Lions host the Minnesota Vikings at 12:30. The Dallas Cowboys entertain the Los Angeles Rams in the late afternoon game. The New York Giants play at Washington in the night contest. Hear all three games on 99.3 The Lift.

The Lions have claimed veteran defensive end Dwight Freeney off waivers. The seven-time Pro Bowler was released  Tuesday by the Seattle Seahawks. Detroit released receiver Jace Billingsley to make room on the roster.
