High School

In high school hockey yesterday…

  • Jeffers blanked Big Rapids 6-0 at the D-III Challenge at Gaylord.
  • Houghton fell to Gabriel Richard 3-2. Jack Sayen and Connor Arko scored for the Gremlins. Cooper Flachs stopped 12 shots, as the Gremlins outshot the Pioneers 29-15. 
  • Hancock held off Bay Port 4-2.

On today’s hockey schedule…

  • Jeffers takes on Detroit Country Day at 10:00 at the D-III Challenge at Gaylord
  • Calumet entertains Gabriel Richard. Coverage will begin at 12:40 on the Voice of the Copper Kings, KBear 102.3.
  • Houghton hosts Bay Port. Coverage will begin at 3:10 on the Voice of the Gremlins, 97.7 The Wolf.

In boys high school basketball last night…

  • Forest Park ripped Rapid River 83-41.

In girls play…

  • Houghton outscored West Iron County 49-43 in overtime. Ellie Hainault had 21 points, 4 steals and 4 assists for the Gremlins. Kaitlyn Smith led the Wykons with 16 points, and hit a late three-pointer to force overtime. Bristol Shamion added 13.
  • Hancock lost to Negaunee 48-31.

In high school swimming today…

  • Houghton competes at Marquette.

Youth Hockey

The Baraga County Frozen Cup Youth Hockey Tournament continues at Meadowbrook Arena. Check the game schedule here

College Hockey

Logan Morrell’s second goal of the night with 40 seconds remaining in regulation helped Michigan Tech to secure a 2-2 tie at Bemidji State last night. The Beavers claimed the extra CCHA standings point with a win in the post-game shootout. Derek Mullahy made 30 saves for the Huskies. Those teams play in Minnesota again tonight.

Ryan Oullette made 31 saves, but Northern Michigan’s hockey squad fell 2-0 to Bowling Green last evening. Those teams skate again tonight in Ohio.

College Basketball

The Michigan Tech men’s basketball team hosts Northland College today at 5:00.

The NMU men’s team faces Upper Iowa at Wisconsin Dells today.

GLHL

The Calumet Wolverines suffered an 8-0 loss to the Mosinee Papermakers last night. The Wolverines host the M and M Shamrocks tonight at 7:30.

The Portage Lake Pioneers entertain the Papermakers tonight at 7:30 at Dee Stadium.

NHL

The Red Wings host the Maple Leafs tonight, with coverage at 6:45 on 99.3 The Lift. The Wings will once again be without goalie Cam Talbot, who started Thursday’s game, but reaggravated the lower body injury that had sidelined him for the previous 10 days. The Wings have called veteran Jack Campbell up from Grand Rapids to fill in.

NBA

The Pistons entertain the Heat Monday.

NFL

On Sunday, the Lions host the Bills in a 4:25 contest. The Packers visit the Seahawks in the Sunday night game. Hear both games on 99.3 The Lift.

MLB

The Brewers have traded closer Devin Williams to the Yankees. In exchange, Milwaukee gets left-handed starter Nestor Cortes and infield prospect Caleb Durbin, along with some cash. Cortes was an All-Star in 2022. Durbin batted .312 in the Arizona League this fall, and stole 29 bases in 24 games. He could move into the infield slot vacated by Willy Adames.
