The high school volleyball tournament opens tonight…
• In Division Two, Houghton plays at Escanaba. Coverage will begin at 5:40 on the Voice of the Gremlins, 97.7 The Wolf.
• In Division Three, Hancock plays at Westwood.
• In Division Four, District 98 at Dollar Bay High School, L’Anse faces Ontonagon, and Baraga takes on Dollar Bay-Tamarack City. Both matches begin at 6:00.
• In Division Four, District 97 at Wakefield-Marenisco High School, Forest Park plays Ironwood at 5:00 Central Time, Ewen-Trout Creek faces Watersmeet at 6:30 Central Time.
College Soccer
At a snowy Kearly Stadium yesterday, the Tech soccer team played to a 0-0 tie against Saginaw Valley State. The Huskies outshot the Cardinals 11-1.
The NMU women’s soccer team shaded Ferris State 1-0 yesterday.
NHL
The Red Wings visit the Islanders tonight.
NBA
The Pistons visit the Thunder this evening.
MLB
The World Series resumes tonight, as the Diamondbacks host the Rangers. The series is tied at one win per team.
NFL
The Packers lost 24-10 to the Vikings yesterday. The Minnesota defense held Green Bay’s running backs to just 40 yards on the ground, and sacked Jordan Love four times. It was a costly win for the Vikings, though. After throwing two touchdown passes, quarterback Kirk Cousins left the game with a torn Achilles tendon. His season could be over.
The Lions entertain the Raiders tonight on 99.3 The Lift. Vegas officials say quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo will play, after missing time with a back injury. Running back David Montgomery will miss another game for Detroit because of injured ribs. Receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown is questionable because of illness.
