High School Football Pairings Set – Monday Sports Wrap

High School

The high school football playoff pairings have been announced…
• In Division Five, Hancock will make a long trip downstate to Gladwin.
• In Division Six, Houghton will make a much shorter trip to Calumet.
• In Division Seven, L’Anse will play at Traverse City St. Francis.
• In Eight-player Division Two, Lake Linden-Hubbell will play at Forest Park.

Ontonagon will not take part in the tournament. All athletic activities have been canceled, as schools in Ontonagon and Gogebic Counties have suspended face-to-face instruction for two weeks, because of rising COVID-19 numbers.

Games can be set for Friday evening or Saturday. Dates and times should be confirmed today.

On the high school volleyball schedule tonight…
• Calumet’s match against Kingsford has been canceled.
• Chassell plays at Dollar Bay-Tamarack City.
• Baraga visits L’Anse.

Skiing

The Copper Country Ski Tigers will hold an online meeting tonight at 7:00, with information for families of new or interested Adventure, Development, and Competition Team skiers. These groups are suitable for skiers between the ages of 11 and 18. Coaches will be introduced, the upcoming season will be discussed, and questions will be answered. Email skitigerraceteammanager@gmail.com to get the link for the meeting.

MLB

In the World Series, the Dodgers downed the Rays 4-2 last night. L-A leads the Fall Classic 3-2. Game six will be played tomorrow.

NFL

Matthew Stafford’s 11-yard touchdown pass to T.J. Hockenson with two seconds remaining lifted the Lions to a 23-22 win over the Falcons yesterday. The winning drive came after Atlanta’s Todd Gurley accidentally scored a touchdown with a little more than a minute to go. Trailing 16-14, the Falcons had been hoping to run out the clock, and kick a game-winning field goal as time expired. The early touchdown gave them the lead, but also gave Detroit time to mount their final touchdown drive.

The Packers took control early, and cruised past the Texans 35-20. Aaron Rodgers threw four touchdown passes.

Last night, the Cardinals edged the Seahawks 37-34 in overtime.

The Bears and Rams will meet tonight on 99.3 The Lift.
