Former short-term Tiger Jake Marisnick has signed a major league contract with the Dodgers. Marisnick was picked up by Detroit in May to fill in for center fielder Riley Green. With no room on the roster following Green’s return, Marisnick was waived last week, and elected to become a free agent.
The Brewers resume their season this evening at Cincinnati. Corbin Burnes will pitch against Graham Ashcraft.

Bibs for those already registered can also be picked up this afternoon, or tomorrow morning between 6 and 8:45 at the Church of the Resurrection. Shuttle service to the starting points of the various events will begin at 6 tomorrow morning at the church.
Hockey
Hancock native Pat Mikesch has been named the new head coach of the Toledo Walleye hockey team. The Walleye play in the ECHL, and are the second level development team in the Detroit Red Wings’ system, under the Grand Rapids Griffins. Mikesch played for Michigan Tech, went on to a nine-year minor league pro career, then returned as an assistant coach for the Huskies from 2004 to 2011. Since then, he has been with the Green Bay Gamblers of the USHL, first as an assistant coach, then as head coach and general manager. Green Bay’s head coach when Mikesch joined the staff was Derek Lalonde, who is now the Red Wings’ head coach. Mikesch replaces former Walleye coach Dan Watson, who was recently named head coach of the Griffins.
GLIAC
The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference is a step closer to gaining a new member. Roosevelt University in Chicago announced yesterday that it has been accepted into the NCAA Division II membership process, beginning with a two-year provisional term this fall. Roosevelt’s athletic program has been a member of the NAIA since it was established in 2009. The university will compete at the NAIA level again this coming season, and will become a member of the GLIAC in the fall of 2024. They will also become the third GLIAC school whose teams are nicknamed the Lakers, along with Lake Superior State and Grand Valley State.
