High School
The Michigan High School Athletic Association is accepting registrations for game officials for the upcoming school year.
For new and returning officials, a $70 fee covers registration for up to two sports. Officials may register for additional sports at $16 per sport.
To avoid a $30 late fee, all fall sport registration applications must be received by August 19th. Winter sports registrations must be received by November 18th, and spring sports registrations by March 24th.
There is some online course work and a test for new officials, and officials who were not registered last year.
There are also opportunities for high school students to officiate at middle school and JV contests.
There is a critical shortage of officials in our area, sometimes making it difficult for athletic directors to schedule games.
Online registration can be accessed by clicking “Officials” on the home page of the MHSAA Website.
College
The Michigan Tech track and cross country program has introduced 15 new athletes for next year. The group includes Hancock High School standout Brielle Kero, who is a three-time All-State honoree, a three-time WestPAC All-Conference performer, and was named the Bulldogs’ 2024 team MVP. She holds the school record for the 400-meter run.
The other 14 hail from eight different states. Learn more about them here.
