MLB
Sloppy defensive play hurt the Tigers again Saturday, as they fell 4-3 to the Twins. An error by Spencer Torkelson at first base led to one Minnesota run, and a wild pitch by Reese Olson set up another. Olson allowed four runs over five innings, but just two were earned. The Tigers made a late run, scoring on a Wenceel Pérez triple in the sixth, a Javier Báez double in the seventh, and a Kerry Carpenter single in the eighth. Parker Meadows sent a long fly ball to right field in the ninth, but it was caught on the warning track.
The Tigers visit the Twins again today. Casey Mize will start against Louie Varland. Coverage will start at 1:45 on 99.3 The Lift.
Gio Urshela’s strained hamstring has landed him on the injured list. The Tigers have called Buddy Kennedy up from Toledo to fill in.
The Brewers trounced the Cardinals 12-5 Saturday. Rhys Hoskins, Brice Turang and Jackson Chourio homered. The outburst negated a sub-par start by D.L. Hall, who gave up four runs before leaving in the fourth inning.
The Brewers play at St. Louis again this afternoon. Colin Raye will pitch against Sonny Gray.
