Hancock Softball Plays in State Quarterfinals Today – Tuesday Sports Wrap

High School

The Hancock softball team will face Hillman in a state tournament quarterfinal game today at 5:00 at Pickford High School.

Twilight League

In Twilight League baseball this evening…
• Northern Driveline takes on Craig Heinonen Coldwell Banker at the Driving Park.
• REL-Mohawk Technology plays Houghton Building Supply-Stanton at the Stanton Field.

MLB

The Tigers had yesterday off, and will host the Nationals tonight. Kenta Maeda will start against Mitchell Parker. Coverage will begin at 6:15 on 99.3 The Lift.

Colin Rae turned in a strong start, as the Brewers shaded the Blue Jays 3-1 last night. Rae allowed one one run on just three hits over seven innings. Jackson Chourio and Willy Adames homered.

The Brewers host the Blue Jays again tonight. Carlos F. Rodriguez is being called up from Nashville to start for Milwaukee, in his major league debut. Yusei Kikuchi will take the mound for Toronto.

Rodriguez will become the 12th pitcher to start a game for the Brewers this season, as the staff has battled numerous injuries. He takes the place of rookie Robert Gasser, who could be facing season-ending surgery on his elbow.

Outfielder Garrett Mitchell could finally be on his way back to the Crew. He’s been out since breaking a finger during spring training, but is beginning a rehab assignment with Milwaukee’s Arizona minor league team.

NHL

The Panthers stopped the Oilers 4-1 last night, and took a 2-0 lead in the Stanley Cup championship series. Game three will be played Thursday in Edmonton.

NBA

The NBA championship series continues tonight, as the Mavericks host the Celtics. Boston leads the series 2-0.

The Pistons’ front office rebuild continues. New team president Trajon Langdon has brought in Michael Blackstone as executive vice president of basketball operations. The two previously worked together in the Pelicans organization.

Horseshoes

In Copper Country Horseshoe League play last evening, every match was decided by the same score…
• Luigi’s Bar shut down Maple Leaf 8-1.
• Dreamland One downed Bucko’s Party Store 8-1.
• Calumet Electronics beat Houghton Building Supply 8-1.
• Ahmeek Fire Department cruised past L and L 8-1.
• Calumet One stopped Eva’s Hideaway 8-1.
• Harter’s Party Store defeated Mohawk Superette 8-1.

Running

Registration continues for Friday’s Thatcher Markham Memorial 5k Run/Walk. The race will begin at 7 pm at the west edge of downtown Hancock, just ahead of the Bridgefest parade. To sign up, click here.

The annual Tony Selkey golf outing will be held Saturday morning at the L’Anse Golf Club. Money raised supports the Baraga County Community Foundation’s efforts to assist area youth. To register your team, email baragacf@up.net.

Fishing

The bodies of the two fishermen who drowned after their boat foundered in Keweenaw Bay during the Keweenaw Bay Classic Fishing Tournament Saturday have been located. In deference to the families, names are not being released. Here are ways you can support their families with the expenses involved:
