In the opening round of the MacInnes Holiday Tournament last night…
– Houghton blanked Howell 4-0. After a scoreless first period, Kevin Bostwick netted the eventual game-winner in the second stanza. P.J. Donnelly added an insurance marker in the third period, and Dawson McKay scored two late goals to seal the win.
– Hancock edged Calumet 5-4 in double overtime. Teddy Randell gave the Bulldogs a quick lead with a goal 35-seconds into the game. Brent Loukus soon tied it, and Dean Loukus put the Copper Kings on top late in the first period. Colton Salani tied the contest with the only goal of the second period. Calumet surged ahead early in the third with a score from Alex Mattila. Then, in a one-minute burst, Michael Stuber tied it for Hancock, Brent Loukus’ second goal of the night put Calumet back on top, and Austin Salani re-tied the game with a goal for the Bulldogs. Petr Anderson scored the game-winner with one minute remaining in the second extra period.
The Bulldogs and Gremlins will meet in the title game tonight at 8:00. The Copper Kings and Highlanders will face off in the consolation match at 6:00. In girls basketball last night, Houghton lost a 58-57 heartbreaker to Westwood.

The Finlandia University men’s basketball team plays at Millikin University tonight.
NHL
The Detroit Red Wings lost 3-1 to the New Jersey Devils last night. Justin Abdelkader scored Detroit’s only goal. Jimmy Howard stopped 29 of 31 shots, and took the loss. New Jersey’s final goal was a last-minute empty-netter. After four games on the road, the Wings return home to host the New York Rangers tomorrow night. Coverage begins at 7:10 on 99.3 The Lift.
NBA
The Detroit Pistons visit the Orlando Magic tonight. Tip-off is at 7:00 on 99.3 The Lift.
Point guard Reggie Jackson’s ankle sprain is a bad one. He’ll rehab for six to eight weeks before doctors even consider a timetable for his return. Jackson hurt the ankle in Tuesday’s win over Indiana.
