In hockey last evening…
• Hancock downed Jeffers 3-1. Luke Mikkola scored twice for the Bulldogs, and Todd Kilpela had a goal and an assist. Saku Cunard made 18 stops in net.

In high school girls basketball last night…
• Calumet smothered Iron Mountain 76-42. Unofficially, Laina Kariniemi led the Copper Kings with 21 points, and Caitlin Strom added 19.
• Lake Linden-Hubbell stopped L’Anse 46-35.
• Dollar Bay-Tamarack City fell to Ewen-Trout Creek 65-45.

In girls hoops tonight…
• Houghton plays at Ishpeming.
• Jeffers visits Hancock.
• Chassell hosts Watersmeet.
• Baraga welcomes Ontonagon.

The Houghton High School swim team competes at the Westwood Invitational tomorrow.

College Hockey

The Michigan Tech and Northern Michigan hockey teams play a home-and-home series this weekend. Tonight’s game will be in Marquette. Tomorrow’s contest will begin at 6:07 at the John MacInnes Student Ice Arena.

Both Finlandia hockey teams host Lake Forest this weekend. Men’s games begin tomorrow at 5:00 and Sunday at 2:00. Women’s games start tomorrow at 8:00, and Sunday at 5:30.

College Basketball

Both Michigan Tech teams opened their Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference seasons with losses at Wisconsin-Parkside last night. The women’s team fell 86-80. Sara Dax paced the Huskies with 26 points, and Ellie Mackay added 24. The men’s team lost 72-49. Rasheed Bello scored 16 points. Both Tech teams play at Purdue Northwest tomorrow.

Both Northern teams earned victories at Purdue Northwest last evening – the women 64-48, and the men 85-77. Both Wildcats teams play at Parkside tomorrow.

Both Finlandia teams host North Central tonight – the women at 6:00, and the men at 8:00. Both Lions teams will welcome the University of Northwestern tomorrow – the women at 4:00, and the men at 6:00.

GLHL

The Portage Lake Pioneers visit the Fox Cities Ice Dogs tonight, and the De Pere Deacons tomorrow.

The Calumet Wolverines play a home-and-home series against the Eagle River Falcons, with tonight’s game in Wisconsin, and tomorrow’s contest at 7:30 at the Colosseum.

NHL

The Red Wings host the Golden Knights tomorrow. Because of college football on 99.3 The Lift, coverage will begin at 6:45 on KBear 102.3.

NBA

The Pistons picked up a rare victory last night, edging the Mavericks 131-125 in overtime. Bojan Bogdanovich scored 30, and Killian Hayes added 22 – eight in overtime.

The Pistons entertain the Grizzlies Sunday.

NFL

In last night’s contest, the Bills shut down the Patriots 24-10. 

Sunday…
• The Lions host the Jaguars in a 1:00 game on 99.3 The Lift.
• The Packers visit the Bears for a 1:00 contest.

MLB

Pitcher Matthew Boyd is returning to the Tigers on a one-year contract. Boyd was a reliable starter in Detroit for six seasons, before he was sidelined by flexor tendon surgery. He saw limited action for the Mariners late last season.

The Brewers have re-signed infielder Mike Brosseau to a one-year deal.
