High School

In high school hockey last night…
• Hancock outskated Calumet 6-3. The Copper Kings grabbed an early lead on a Cam Anderson goal. Hancock quickly tied it when Tevin Stukel found the net for the first of two goals. Todd Kilpela put the Bulldogs ahead for good late in the first period. Ben Keranen, Jackson Sintkowski, and Brady Axford also scored for the ‘Dogs. Nate Londo and Matt Frantti scored for the Kings. In boys basketball last evening…
• Houghton couldn’t hold an 11-point halftime lead, and fell to Ishpeming 65-60 in overtime. Isaiah Lawson and Lane Laux each scored 19 for the Gremlins. Caden Louma netted 21 for the Hematites, and Hayden Hares added 15. Hear the game replay here.
• Calumet downed Ontonagon 46-38.
• Lake Linden-Hubbell stopped Baraga 68-30.
• Dollar Bay-Tamarack City shut down Republic-Michigamme 69-23.
• Chassell defeated Watersmeet 56-43. Eli Danison led the Panthers with 14 points, Mason Loukus added 13, Kalvin Kytta 11, and Grady Olson 10. Blake Shively had 16 for the Nimrods.

In girls play last evening…
• Ewen-Trout Creek overpowered Hurley 70-30.

On the boys schedule tonight…
• Hancock welcomes Negaunee, in a make-up game from January 15th.

In girls action…
• Dollar Bay-Tamarack City travels to Watersmeet.
• Hancock tips off at Lake Linden-Hubbell.

NHL

The Wings return to the ice tonight, when they entertain the Senators. Coverage will begin at 6:45 on 99.3 The Lift.

NBA

The Pistons visit the Cavaliers this evening.

NFL

Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson says he’ll remain with the team next season. Johnson had been considered a leading candidate to become a head coach with another team, with the Commanders and Seahawks particularly interested.

Nordic Skiing

A Snowshoe Bean Bag Biathlon fundraiser to support trail grooming near and around Calumet Lake at Lions Park will be held Saturday at 1:30. There is a .9 mile open event and .4 mile youth event, with modest penalty laps if you can’t toss a bean bag into a hole at the start and finish.

Swedetown Winter Trails Day will take place Sunday, with free one-day passes for Nordic skiing and snowshoeing between noon and 4. Snowshoe and ski demos and rentals will be provided by Cross Country Sports of Calumet.
