CopperDog 150
The pieces are in place for this year’s modified CopperDog dogsled races. Because of COVID-19 concerns, there will be no public access to the race. Activities have been moved to the northern part of the peninsula, to reduce public interaction. The CopperDog 150, which usually employs 10-dog teams, will use eight-dog teams this year. Mushers will each be allowed a 10-dog pool from which they can select that day’s team. The first stage will leave Eagle Harbor tomorrow evening at 6:00, and proceed to Copper Harbor. The Saturday stage will be an out-and-back from Copper Harbor, beginning at 8:30. The third stage will run from Copper Harbor back to Eagle Harbor, again beginning at 8:30. There will be no two-stage CopperDog 80 this year. The single-stage CopperDog 25 will employ six-dog teams. The race will be a 14-mile out-and-back sprint that begins Saturday afternoon at 4:00.
Even though no spectators will be allowed, fans can still follow the race. Live video and updated times will be available at CopperDog150.com. Todd VanDyke will broadcast updates throughout the weekend on 97.7 The Wolf and KBear 102.3.
