Hancock Hockey Holds Off Kingsford – Wednesday Sports Wrap

High School

In high school hockey last night…

  • Hancock scored the first five goals of the game, then held on to defeat Kingsford 5-3. Colton Salani, Petr Anderson, Todd Anderson, Austin Salani and Kyle Maki scored for the Bulldogs, who outshot the Flivvers 42-15.

In girls basketball last night…

  • L’Anse lost to West Iron County 70-55.

In girls action tonight…

  • Dollar Bay-Tamarack City tips off at Jeffers in a game that was rescheduled from December 12th.
  • Baraga hosts Wakefield-Marenisco in a contest that was rescheduled from February 4th.

In boys hoops last night…

  • Houghton downed Lake Linden-Hubbell 75-65.
  • Chassell outscored Baraga 74-51.
  • Ontonagon shut down L’Anse 81-32.
  • Ewen-Trout Creek stopped Watersmeet 72-56.

On the boys schedule tonight…

  • Calumet plays at West Iron County, in a game that was postponed from February 8th.

Finlandia

Finlandia University has added two new soccer recruits. Megan Strom from Iron River will join the women’s team. She played club soccer in Marquette. Fernando Palomares will join the men’s squad. He’s from Norwalk, California.

NHL

The Detroit Red Wings will host the Chicago Blackhawks tonight. Pregame coverage will start at 7:10 on 99.3 The Lift.

NBA

The Detroit Pistons return to action Friday, when they visit the Atlanta Hawks.

Fishing

The Chassell VFW Post will hold its annual ice fishing tournament on Portage Lake Saturday. Fishing for northern pike, walleye, crappie and perch in the adult tournament will begin at 7:00 am. The youth tournament will conclude at 1:00, and the adult tournament at 7:00 pm. Sign up at the Chassell VFW during regular business hours this week, or Saturday morning between 7:00 and 10:00.

Our regular-season high school hockey coverage wraps up tomorrow night, when Houghton hosts Escanaba. The pregame show will begin around 6:40 on KBear 102.3 and KBear102.com. W’ll broadcast all of the playoff games for our local teams beginning Tuesday.
