Hancock Girls, Jeffers Boys Hoops Remain Unbeaten – Friday Sports Wrap

High School

In high school boys basketball last night…
 • Houghton fell to Negaunee 50-47.
 • Jeffers smothered Bessemer 67-21. The Jets improve to 5-0 on the season.
 • Dollar Bay-Tamarack City got past Ewen-Trout Creek 50-43.
 • Chassell lost to Ironwood 53-43.
 • The Calumet game at Baraga was postponed, and will be made up tonight.

In girls play last evening…
 • Hancock shut down Ishpeming 42-27. Bella Hebert scored 18 for the Bulldogs, and Kaisa Salani added 11. The Bulldogs improve to 7-0 on the season.
 • Ontonagon got past Lake Linden-Hubbell 52-43. Makennah Uotila led the Gladiators with 24 points. Cleo Milkey had 17 for the Lakes.
 • Ewen-Trout Creek downed Dollar Bay-Tamarack City 50-33.
 • Chassell fell at Ironwood 50-38.
 • The Westwood at Calumet game was postponed, and will be made up February 6th.

The Watersmeet at L’Anse boys-girls doubleheader scheduled for yesterday will be made up today. The boys varsity game will start at 4:45, and the girls game will begin around 6:15.

College Basketball

The Michigan Tech women’s basketball team got off to a fast start, and cruised to a 69-53 victory at Saginaw Valley State last evening. The Huskies led by 14 at the end of the first quarter. Ellie Mackay scored 21 for Tech.

The Tech men’s team couldn’t overcome a slow start, and fell 69-58 at Saginaw Valley last night. Marcus Tomashek had 12 points in a game in which every Husky scored.

Both Tech teams play at Wayne State tomorrow.

Both Northern Michigan basketball teams earned overtime victories at Wayne State last evening – the women 5652, and the men 64-62.

Both Northern teams play at Saginaw Valley State tomorrow.

College Hockey

The Michigan Tech hockey team is in Tempe, Arizona for the Desert Classic. They’ll open against host Arizona State tonight, and face either Air Force or Boston University tomorrow.

The Northern Michigan hockey team hosts Minnesota State tonight and tomorrow. 

The Finlandia men’s hockey team hosts Trine University today and tomorrow. Each game will begin at 4:00 at the Houghton County Arena.

The Finlandia women’s hockey team entertains Wisconsin-Superior tomorrow at 7:00 and Sunday at 4:00. Coverage of the Sunday game will begin at 3:40 on the Voice of the Lions, 99.3 The Lift.

GLHL

The Portage Lake Pioneers visit the Eagle River Falcons tonight. 

The Calumet Wolverines visit the Falcons tomorrow.

Nordic Skiing

The U.S. Cross Country Ski National Championships conclude with the classic 10/20K mass start distance race today. 

While this is the final day of championship competition, there will be a SuperTour skate sprint tomorrow.

The Pistons visit the Spurs tonight.

NHL

The Red Wings host the Panthers this evening. Coverage will begin at 6:45 on 99.3 The Lift.

Wings captain Dylan Larkin has been named to the NHL All-Star Team for the third time.

NFL

The regular NFL season wraps up this weekend.

Tomorrow, the Chiefs visit the Raiders for a 4:30 contest, and the Jaguars host the Titans for an 8:15 game. Hear them both on 99.3 The Lift.

The Lions visit the Packers for the Sunday night game. Coverage will begin at 7:15 on 99.3 The Lift.

The game between the Bills and Bengals that was suspended Monday night when Buffalo safety Damar Hamlin collapsed on the field will not be completed, and will not count in the standings. Hamlin remains hospitalized in critical condition, but doctors report he is making progress.

MLB

It appears the Tigers have found a new manager for their Triple A Toledo farm team. There are reports that Rockies hitting coach Anthony Iapoce has accepted the position. It will be his first managerial job at any level.
