High School

In high school volleyball last evening…

  • Hancock swept Houghton 3-0 (25-16, 25-21, 25-19) in the annual Copper Spike Match.
  • Calumet blanked Jeffers 3-0 (25-10, 25-13, 25-18). For the Copper Kings, Allie Bjorn had 15 kills, 3 aces and 8 digs; Jackie Kiilunen 18 kills, 1 ace, and 10 digs; Jess Anderson 3 aces and 9 digs; and Bella Coppo 27 assists and 3 aces. For the Jets, Mia Nordstrom had 9 kills; Reegan Kinnunen had three kills and 11 digs; and Taylor Heinonen 11 digs and 7 assists.
  • Dollar Bay-Tamarack City stopped Watersmeet 3-0. Kiera Isaacson led the Blue Bolts with 17 kills. Macy Jurgensen had 23 assists and tied Laila Bell for most service points with 16.
  • L’Anse fell to West Iron County 3-0.
  • Ontonagon lost to Ironwood 3-0.
  • Baraga dropped a 3-2 decision to Bessemer.
  • Ewen-Trout Creek fell to Wakefield-Marenisco 3-1.

In high school football tonight…

  • Houghton plays at Hancock in the annual Copper Bowl game. Coverage will begin at 6:40 on the Voice of the Gremlins, 97.7 The Wolf.
  • Calumet hosts L’Anse, with coverage at 6:40 on the Voice of the Copper Kings, KBear 102.3.

  • Lake Linden-Hubbell hosts Ontonagon.

College Hockey

The MTU hockey team entertains Clarkson tonight at 7:07 and tomorrow at 6:07.

The NMU hockey squad hosts Arizona State tonight and tomorrow.

College Volleyball

The Tech volleyball team plays at Wayne State tonight, and Grand Valley State tomorrow afternoon.

The Northern volleyball team plays at Grand Valley tonight, and Wayne State tomorrow.

College Soccer

The Michigan Tech soccer team entertains Purdue Northwest today at 5:00.

The Northern women’s team hosts Roosevelt University today at 3:00.

College Football

The MTU football team hosts Northern Michigan tomorrow in the annual Miner’s Cup game. Kickoff will be at noon.

GLHL

The Portage Lake Pioneers host the M and M Shamrocks from the Menominee-Marinette area tomorrow night. Faceoff is at 7:30 at Dee Stadium.

NHL

The Red Wings won their third straight game last night, 5-3 over the Devils. Patrick Kane’s power play goal with 3:32 remaining was the game-winner. Christian Fischer, Andrew Copp and Alex DeBrincat scored earlier, and Michael Rasmussen sealed the win with an empty-netter. Cam Talbot made 37 saves, as New Jersey outshot Detroit 40-20.

The Wings will visit the Sabers tomorrow afternoon. Because of college football on 99.3 The Lift, Wings coverage will start at 12:45 on KBear 102.3.

NBA

The Pistons visit the Cavaliers tonight. Coverage will begin at 7:05 on 99.3 The Lift.

MLB

The Dodgers entertain the Yankees, as the World Series opens tonight.

NFL

In last night’s NFL contest, Matthew Stafford threw four touchdown passes, as the Rams outscored the Vikings 30-20. 

The Lions host the Titans in a 1:00 game Sunday on 99.3 The Lift. Jameson Williams has decided not to appeal the two-game suspension handed down by the league for violating the performance-enhancing substances policy, although he continues to deny any wrongdoing.

The Packers visit the Jaguars for a 1:00 contest.

In the Sunday night contest, the Cowboys visit the 49ers on 99.3 The Lift.
