College Basketball

Both Michigan Tech basketball teams entertain Purdue-Northwest tonight – the women at 5:30, and the men at 7:30.

Both Northern teams welcome Parkside this evening.

College Soccer

The Finlandia University men’s soccer team has added a new recruit. Elijah Akins is a goalkeeper from Bremerton, Washington.

College Hockey

Michigan Tech goaltender Blake Pietila has been named one of nine semifinalists for the Mike Richter Award, given annually to the top goaltender in men’s NCAA Division I hockey. It’s the third time he’s been named a semifinalist. The field also includes Devon Levi of Northeastern, who was last year’s winner.

NHL

The Red Wings gave up a late two-goal lead, then slipped past the Oilers 5-4 in a shootout last night. Dylan Larkin had a goal and an assist for Detroit. Pius Suter netted the game-winner in the shootout. Ville Husso made 41 saves.

The Wings skate at Calgary tonight. Coverage will begin at 8:45 on 99.3 The Lift.

NBA

The Pistons fell to the Celtics 127-109 last evening. Bojan Bogdanovic scored 28 points.

Because of the all-star break, the Pistons are off until they visit the Magic a week from tonight.

MLB

Baseball spring training is underway. Tigers pitchers and catchers held their first workouts at Lakeland, Florida, yesterday. Position players will report Monday, and Detroit’s Grapefruit League schedule will begin a week from Saturday with a game against the Phillies.
