Morning Sports for Wednesday, May 28th:
MLB: Tigers Come Back to Edge A’s
The Tigers came from behind to beat the Athletics 6-5 Tuesday night. Oakland took an early lead… scoring all five of their runs off Max Scherzer. Detroit also got some early scoring… on a two-run double by J.D. Marinez, and a home run by Miguel Cabrera. The Tigers tied the game in the seventh inning with a Torii Hunter home run… then scored the winning run in the eighth without a hit. J.D. Martinez walked… and was replaced by pinch-runner Rajai Davis. Davis moved to second on a passed ball… then stole third. Nick Castellanos walked… and Davis then scored when Austin Jackson beat out a relay throw to first base on what could have been a double play.
Detroit continues that series at Oakland tonight. Anibal Sanchez will face Scott Kazmir. Hear the first pitch at 10:05 on AM 1400, WCCY.
Gallardo Bats Brewers to Win
The Brewers got a pinch-hit RBI double from pitcher Yovani Gallardo in the 10th inning, and beat the Orioles 7-6. With the Brewers out of position players, and two outs in the inning, Baltimore pitcher T.J. McFarland intentionally walked Mark Reynolds to get to pitcher Francisco Rodriguez… who has batted only twice in his major league career. Gallardo batted instead… and blasted a pitch off the center field wall to win the game.
Gallardo will start tonight’s game against the Orioles. Bud Norris will pitch for Baltimore.
