High School
In the quarterfinals of the high school hockey tournament last night, Sault Ste. Marie scored a goal as the net came loose in the first minute. Houghton controlled the rest of the game, and cruised to a 4-1 victory. Jacob Cruse tied the game midway through the first period. Tristan Foltz and Erich Walter put the Gremlins on top with power play goals early in the second. Reid Pietila scored an insurance tally in the third. Marcus Gloss stopped 23 shots to earn the win.

The Gremlins will face Flint Powers Catholic in the semifinals Friday at 1:30 in Plymouth. Our pre-game coverage will begin just after 1:00 on KBear 102.3 and KBear102.com. Bloomfield Hills will meet Riverview in the other semifinal.

In Class C boys’ high school basketball tournament action last night, Calumet’s season ended with a 49-30 loss to Ironwood in the District title game.

In Class D at Ontonagon…
Jeffers Jets Logo– Jeffers took an 11-point lead over Dollar Bay at the end of the first quarter. The teams then played toe-to-toe through the rest of the game, as the Jets claimed a 54-40 victory. Brant Ryynanen led all scorers with 16 for Jeffers. Zach Nicholas added 13, and Miles Rajala scored 12. Devin Schmitz and Stephen Joyal each scored 11 for the Blue Bolts.
Lake Linden Hubbell Logo– Lake Linden-Hubbell and Chassell played toe-to-toe for the first six minutes, That’s when the Lakes shifted gears, and powered to an 80-36 victory over the Panthers. Tyler Roose scored 23 for Lake Linden, and Brett Poissant added 21. Hunter Rautiola led the Panthers with eight points.

In the girls’ high school basketball tournament tonight…
– In Class B, Houghton faces Manistee at Sault Ste. Marie. Our pregame coverage will begin just after 6:30 on KBear 102.3 and KBear102.com.
– In Class C, Calumet faces Gwinn at 7:00 at Escanaba.

NHL – Red Wings Prepare for Columbus
The Detroit Red Wings host the Blue Jackets this evening. Face-off is at 7:30 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3 WCCY.

NBA – Pistons Fall to Warriors
The fading Detroit Pistons dropped a 105-98 decision to the Warriors last night. Andre Drummond led Detroit with 22 points and a career-best 27 rebounds. The Pistons have lost eight in a row, and play at Portland tomorrow night. Tip-off is at 10:00 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3 WCCY.

MLB
David Price gave up four runs over two innings, and the Detroit Tigers lost to the Nationals 9-2 yesterday. The Tigers split their squad for games against the Phillies and Astros this afternoon.

The Brewers beat the Giants 6-3. Milwaukee starter Matt Garza allowed two runs over three innings. The Brewers face the Rockies this afternoon.

The Green Bay Packers have re-signed tackle Bryan Bulaga.
