College Football

The Finlandia football team has added a new recruit. Nick LaFleur is from Vernon Hills, Illinois.

NHL

The Detroit Red Wings lost to the Carolina Hurricanes 3-1 last night. Jakub Vrana scored Detroit’s only goal. Jonathan Bernier made 29 saves, and took the loss in net.

The Wings entertain the Tampa Bay Lightning tomorrow afternoon. We’ll join the game in progress following Tigers baseball on 99.3 The Lift.

NBA

The Detroit Pistons lost 115-105 to the Dallas Mavericks last evening. Isaiah Stewart led Detroit with 20 points and 10 rebounds. Frank Jackson also scored 20.

The Pistons visit the Charlotte Hornets tomorrow night. Coverage begins at 6:35 on 99.3 The Lift.

MLB

The Detroit Tigers lost both of their games against the Chicago White Sox yesterday, falling 3-1 in the opener, and 11-0 in the nightcap. Detroit totaled just five hits in the two games. Casey Mize gave up three runs over six innings, and took the loss in the first contest. In the second game, Matthew Boyd left as the Sox scored four runs in the second inning. Michael Fulmer relieved him. Chicago added seven in the fifth inning off Derek Holland and Alex Lange.

The Tigers head to New York to open a series against the Yankees tonight. Tarik Skubal will pitch against Gerrit Cole. Coverage will begin at 6:45 on 99.3 The Lift.

Boyd’s early exit was caused by knee pain. Team officials blamed tendinitis. There’s no word as to whether he’ll be ready for his next start.

The Milwaukee Brewers held off the Los Angeles Dodgers 2-1 last night. Travis Shaw’s two-run homer in the fourth inning was all the Crew needed. L-A pounded out nine hits, but couldn’t score until they got one off Josh Hader in the ninth.

The Brewers host the Dodgers again tonight. Freddy Peralta will start for Milwaukee. L-A has not named a starter.

The Brewers have brought pitcher Jordan Zimmermann up from their alternate training site, and sent pitcher Patrick Weigel back down. Milwaukee currently has 14 players on the injured list.

NFL

The Detroit Lions used the seventh pick in the NFL Draft last night to take Oregon offensive tackle Penei Sewell. Sewell won the Outland Trophy as best college football interior lineman in 2019, when he was a sophomore. He opted out of the 2020 season.

The Green Bay Packers selected Georgia cornerback Eric Stokes with the 29th pick.

To the surprise of no one, the Jacksonville Jaguars took Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence. The New York Jets took Brigham Young University quarterback Zach Wilson with the second pick, and the San Francisco 49ers traded up to get North Dakota State quarterback Trey Lance with the third selection.

Rounds two and three of the draft will take place tonight, with the final rounds scheduled for tomorrow.

There are reports that Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers has told team management that he no longer wishes to play in Green Bay. Packers officials continue to say they’re committed to Rodgers remaining with the team, and are not considering a trade.
